Hi, Welcome to Creative Violin, the new violin method.
In the videos I will explain how everything works so that you can learn how to play the violin the easy and fun way.
I will add downloads of the pages in the book so you can print them or watch them on a tablet.
Besides the videos you will find more info on the pages too.
I have put all lessons chronologically, so if you follow that you will get the best results, take your time to master each item, never rush it, enjoy every step you take.
By doing this you should start with the 3 basics videos, after you mastered that, lesson 1 and 2.Happy playing!
Xander Nichting
In this first of 3 basics video you will learn all about the violin, how to hold it, the correct posture and how to place the fingers on the fingerboard correctly.
This is the second of 3 basics videos where you will learn everything about the bow.
This is the last of the 3 basics videos where you will learn your first notes on the violin.
How and where to place the bow, your correct posture.
Do these 3 basics videos well so you will have much more ease with the lessons.
All you need to know about tuning your violin.
What do you do when a tuning peg shoots loose, when a string breaks?
Learn how to use a tuning device, which are the correct pitches and finish the job with the finetuners.
A violin needs to be tuned every time you start playing.
You can use a tuning device as described in my video "Tuning the violin".
If you want to tune your violin by ear, great choice!
I give you the pitches here.
Be sure to start with the 3 “Violin & Bow Basics” video’s.
1 Violin & Bow Basics 1:3 “The violin”
2 Violin & Bow Basics 1:3 “The Bow”
3 Violin & Bow Basics 1:3 “The First Notes”
Take your time for these, they are important for a good start with the violin.
After you are done with the 3 basics video’s you are ready for Lesson 1a, 1b and 1c".
Here we will discuss bowing and first fingering on half notes.
After watching the lessons 1a, 1b and 1c you can start playing Exercise 1 and 2.
Please download page 8 in this section, you can play 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d and 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d in the next lectures along with the videos.
If you know them well enough to play them by yourself, download the backing tracks (BT) to play along with.
Never a dull moment :-)
Here we will go through the basics on how to hold the bow.
This is very important to follow carefully as you will have all potential in future playing.
Let me guide you through the steps here.

Let's improvise with the notes we learned so far.
We will make small melodies with the notes we know, open string, 1st and 2nd finger.
Let's do this together.
In this lesson we will already push the tempo up a notch, playing separate quarter notes.
Learn to play them legato: smooth bowing, but also portato: a bit lighter, with little "gaps" in between
You can download page 11 (from the book Creative Violin 1) right here.
(For exercises 3-6)
Also the backing tracks are downloadable, always your accompaniment at hand.
Separate quarter notes on the G string
Let's improvise with the notes we learned so far.
We can use half notes, then quarter notes, and of course we will mix them up a bit too.
I will play along with you in turns, follow me, it will be easy.
The violin is the most perfect instrument for all thinkable music styles, apart from classical music it has claimed it's place in jazz, pop, rock, country, world music...
Until now there has been no violin method that went beyond classical music.
Creative Violin brings this to a change.
Apart from classical music the student will taste many different styles of music and even learn to improvise, right from the start.
I see that this works very well, even the youngest beginners (6 years old!) learn how to close the book and start playing intuitive, along with the provided studio recorded accompaniments, right from the first lessons.
Creative Violin is a new method which even includes improvisation training right from the start.
What can you expect in this first course?
This course will set you up with all the basics needed to play the violin the right way.
In the basics you will learn the correct posture, how to hold the violin, how to place the fingers on the fingerboard, exercises...
You will learn how to hold the bow correctly and learn the most common bowing techniques.
The 3rd basics video teaches you the first notes, you will also learn to read them from a score.
Included is the video where you will learn how to tune your violin (without breaking strings).
If you want to master the basics you need for violin study this will be the best choice you'll find online, because the course is made to guide you every step of the way in clear tutorial videos.
After this course you will be ready for the next courses where we start with the 3rd finger, quarter/eighth notes, more bowing techniques...
Included music are classical pieces (Bach, Mozart, Dvorak, Bartok...) as well as the jazz/swing, musical, and world music from countries like Ireland and Romania...
All lessons and exercises are accompanied with studio recorded backing tracks, so you'll never have to play alone.
