After completing this step you will have a rabbit shaped head that you will then cover with clay. Please take a moment to review the attached PDF file for a list of materials and tips and tricks.
Using Sculpey clay you will prepare the clay by working it with your hands to soften it and get it ready to apply to the foil head.
In this video Jan will show you easy ways to form the clay over the foil head to create the base for the nose, eyes, and ears.
This part of the process involves forming the nose of the bunny using your fingers. Jan suggests using a small amount of Vaseline to help smooth the clay. Then using a simple golf tee as a tool you can complete the nose and mouth of the bunny head.
This lecture will help you start to bring the bunny head to life by adding the eyes. Using your fingers and the golf tee you will create the bunny eyes that will sparkle to life later on in the build.
This step will complete the bunny head by adding the ears. By the end of this video you will have a beautiful bunny head ready to go into a 300 degree oven for 15 minutes. The clay will get very hard and you can proceed to the next section to create the body of the rabbit. Congratulations on completing the important step of creating a rabbit head and face from just foil and clay!
In this lecture you will learn how to form the body with foil and attach the head to the body.
This important step will show you how to give the bunny legs and then learn how to mount the legs to a base to stabilize the sculpture.
Choosing a strong base for the rabbit sculpture is an important step as this will give it strength and a firm platform to rest. In this lecture Jan uses a simple clay base that you can find at any hobby store.
You will add the arms to the bunny in this step. They can be positioned in several ways and Jan will explain your various options.
The lecture is one of the longest and most important steps in the build. Using a mixture of water, Elmer's Glue and wall paper paste powder. Jan will explain how to mix it to the correct consistency in the video.
Using Angel Soft Bathroom tissue Jan has created a method that will give you very realistic looking fur that you can apply to your sculpture. This technique is one that she has used for years to add detail to many different types of sculptures and she will show you how easy it is to make and apply.
This all important step in the process complete the rabbit sculpture and get it ready for the final steps of painting and adding decorations. You can get very creative in this process to give the bunny many different looks. Jan will explain the basics of making the clothes for the rabbit and you can add your own personal touches if you choose. Or you can just follow along with Jan and create the bunny in the pictures.
In this video Jan shows you how to prepare the sculpture for paint. An important first step is to use common white house paint to completely cover the rabbit. This part is messy and requires gloves, a big bowl and a brush to smooth out the drips. After the rabbit is dry it can be painted with acrylic paints of any colors that you choose. Then you spray it with matte clear enamel to prepare it for antiquing.
This video is a bit longer because this step will really add a realistic look to your rabbit and give it depth. Jan will show you her technique for applying a watered down mixture of the paint and then wiping it off to get the antique look.
You are almost done! Now you can get as creative as you wish in choosing how you will add decorations to your rabbit sculpture. This step is the final one and will amaze you when you finish, stand back and look at what you have created in just a day and a half! Congratulations on a job well done and Jan hopes that you will enjoy your bunny for years to come. Thank You!!
