Most CAD programs start with 2d drawings that are then extruded into 3d models.
Revit generates 3D models that are sliced both horizontally and vertically to create 2d drawings.
These 2D drawings are simply a sliced representation of the 3D model therefore if anything changes on the model, it will automatically change in any drawing and schedule.
All types of drawings from presentation drawings to construction drawings can all be done in 1 central database file

§Start a new file using the Default.rte file in the US imperial folder.
Confirm that the Units are set to imperial. Snaps and snap increments are to remain unchanged.
Must be in an elevation view
Create the following 3 levels : Ground Floor at 0’-0” , mezzanine at 9’-0” and Roof at 12’-0”
The T.O interior wall level at 8’-0” should not have a view in the project browser causing it to turn black.
•Duplicate the “Exterior - Brick on Mtl. Stud” wall type and name it “MY 10” WALL”.
•Revise it to a width of 10” by changing the thickness of the following layers: Air – 1”, plywood- ½”, metal stud –4”, Brick- 4”.
•You can also revise any of materials used.
•Construct the exterior wall with the dimensions given below. Ignore any window or door openings. The Exterior walls will have a height to the Roof level.
•Duplicate the “Interior – 4 7/8" Partition (1-hr)” wall type and name it “My interior wall” and revise the Metal stud width to 3.5” and both gypsum wall board to ½”.
•Construct the interior walls with the dimensions given on the next page. Ignore any door openings. The Interior walls will have a height to the T.O. interior walls level.
•The wider interior walls are comprised of a “Generic 10” masonry” wall type with ½” gypsum wallboard on each side.
•
•Start by placing the walls in close proximity to its location and then relocate them afterwards
•Place a Storefront Window around the solarium with the following properties:
•Height- To Roof Level
•Mullion location Vertical- Maximum spacing 3’ -Horizontal – Every 3’.3 (use the 2.5x5” rectangular type)
•Duplicate the “Fixed 36" x 72" window type and rename it “66”x72”. Revise it so that it is 66” wide. Place it in the Master Bedroom exterior wall where shown in the floor plan. Make the sill height 1’-6”.
•
•Note: you can also load other styles on windows.
•Insert the “Door-Double-Sliding.rfa” door file for the door in the dining room that lead out to the porch.
•The door must be 6’-0” wide x 7’ high and placed in the proper location
•Add a 30”x84” single flush door to all rooms that require one.
•Add a 36”x84” single flush door to the front entrance
•Add “Door-Bifold_2-Panel_Classic_SlimFold_Dunbarton.rfa” door at the appropriate size to all closets.
•Use the “3" LW Concrete on 2" Metal Deck” floor type to place a floor around the entire building. Duplicate the floor assembly and entitle it “ My floor”. Add a “wood flooring” finish of 1” to the top of the floor assembly. Trace around the exterior of the building, including the porch area.
•Add a Floor on the Mezzanine level as shown below.
•Create a roof using the “Wood Rafter 8" - Asphalt Shingle – Insulated” roof type on the roof level. The roof will overhang the exterior walls by 2’.
•The roof will be a SHED type roof. Use a slope arrow to define the slope of the shed roof.
•Height offset at tail is 0’-0” and at the head is 4’-0”.
•Make sure to extend the exterior walls, and store front walls below this roof to meet the roof.
•The interior wall “generic masonry 10” “ wall must also be extended to the roof.
•Place railings along the edge of the porch.
•Load the railing file “Baluster Panel - Glass.rfa”
•Select the “Hand rail rectangular” and duplicate it and rename it as “my railing”. Revise the Baluster placement as shown below:
Use the “7" max riser 11" tread” type stairs. Make it 3’-0” wide. Position it in the building as shown below.
Use railing type “handrail pipe” along the stairs and around the mezzanine.
Add furniture from the Revit folders throughout the building
Use the Components command and click Load Family.
Add cabinets, counter tops, and appliances to the kitchen area and bathroom
Use the Components command and click Load Family.
•Add a 2x4’ ACT in the kitchen. Add a 2x2’ ACT in the W/C.
•Add a gypsum wall board ceiling to the bedroom and laundry room. All ceiling are 7’-11” high.
•All other areas have no ceiling.
Add various lighting fixture to each room. Both in the ceiling, on the floor, and on a wall.
•Add room tags to the Rooms below.
•Set the annotation scale to 3/16”=1’-0” first.
Place a section line across the center of the building (Centre of the kitchen), length wise. Have the section face downward (south)
Blacken out all the walls on the ground floor plan and add a color scheme.
In the section view, fill in the walls, floors, roof with a solid black fill pattern.
Add a camera to the site plan to show an eye level view of the back of the building.
Add another camera inside the building to generate an interior rendering
Set the crop size to 6x4”
Create 3 different materials. One must be a custom material with an image downloaded from the internet. One is paint applied to Walls. One is an Autodesk material they is revised and applied to the floor.
Render the exterior view at Medium Quality @150 dpi (6x4) with Sun lighting and a few clouds
Render the interior view at Medium Quality @150 dpi (6x4) with artificial lighting and a few clouds
Save it to the project as” Exterior” and “Interior”.
§Load the “B 11 x 17 Horizontal.rfa” that was provided. Fill in the title block.
§Set the Ground floor plan at 3/16” =1’-0”
§Set the section view at 3/16” =1’-0”
§Set crop size
§Set detail level and visual style
Insert the Ground floor, Section and Rendering on to the sheet.
Print the sheet as a PDF file.
Everyone has a busy life. No one has the time to Learn software. This course was designed for those that have a limited amount of time to learn Revit. The focus of this course is to get the user up and running with Revit and to establish a process of creating 3d models and drawings. This course is project led. It will create an entire building from bottom to top in the most efficient and effective way.
