Welcome to this Parenting Course!
Let's talk about the most nuts and bolts of your role as a parent, and what you need to understand about what your kids need the most from you.
Are you hard on yourself about your parenting? We all mistakes, and they aren't permanent. Let's talk about how you can notice and recognize why you beat yourself up about your parenting skills.
Compassion starts with YOU. In this video, we'll talk about how to develop self-compassion, what stands in your way, and how easy it actually is to develop self-compassion.
In this video, I talk about the importance of keeping that door of communication open, especially as your kids get older. You'll learn the 7 things to prioritize with communication with your children.
Build your skills in active listening
Welcome to Model 2, where we'll talk about relationships. In this first video, we focus on the family relationships and helping your child navigate these first relationships they have and develop. Family relationships are the foundation, your children's first taste of self-worth, and unconditional love.
Let's talk about peer relationships with your children; playgroups, daycare, school, sports, and other events where they begin to interact with others, socialize and develop different relationships outside of the family.
In this video, we dive deeper into kindness and compassion. Your kids learn kindness and compassion from you, and what they learn directly impacts their ability to develop healthy relationships with other children.
In this video, we have some fun with this topic of manners. Manners help your children develop respect, which has a direct impact on the responsibility they develop. Responsibility=Freedom
The last video in this module focuses on self-esteem; and how manners, respect, kindness, and compassion all play a role in developing your child's self-esteem. We see ourselves reflected back from everyone around us; hence the importance of surrounding ourselves with people who lift us up, encourage us and have a positive influence on us.
In this module, we talk about maintaining emotional wellness. Giving your kids the base they need to continue good habits and make healthy choices for themselves and the relationships they develop. In this first video we talk about self-control; something that can, admittedly, just drive you nuts!
This is something that really helped me understand what was going on with my kids, and now I share this insight with you. The brain gives attention to two primary functions, and your brain will offer resistance to anything that goes against these two primary survival functions.
In this video, we focus on how to help your kids feel empowered instead of helpless. Kids will repeat old habits unless they practice the new habits over and over, and that takes a while. As parents, you give and give and you may not see the results right away, but if you stick with it and encourage your kids, what you pass on will serve them as they grow. Have patience.
This could be an entire course on its own, and there are many different ways to look at mental health in children. Many doctors are still unaware of the changes in children's mental health that have happened over the last 3-4 decades and are still sharing the same old, outdated, and quite frankly unhealthy information, which can negatively impact a child's mental health.
Bullying is all about power and control. The definition of "abuse" is, trying to get power over someone else.
In this video, I share 8 ways you can respond when your child is being bullied.
Before beginning this section, it's important that you watched the previous video. The insight you'll gain there will help you and your child understand what's going on, and what they're feeling when they approach someone else with a bullying intent; which is what we cover in this final section of the module.
In this module, we talk about practical parenting in the modern world. There are things that happen now, that make parenting more challenging. The same things that worked as a parent, a hundred years ago, don't necessarily work now because the world is a different place. The challenges of today are vastly different than what you likely experienced growing up. In this first video, let's talk about the importance of internet safety and social media; something that has a direct impact, daily, on your child's development.
Video games and smartphone apps are a huge part of the daily life of today's modern child. During this video, I share tips on the importance of limiting screen time and why it's necessary.
In this section, I talk about how we as parents need to set limits, and how discipline is a teaching tool to help your kids get back on the right path. The key is to think about it as an opportunity to learn; have compassion for yourself and your child, and then take a step back, and decide what your child needs to learn about the situation so how you can help them.
Work ethic, chores, and money management. You as a parent, are challenged to help your child understand the importance of working for what they want. The marketing your kids are subjected too, teaches them that the value is in "getting it", rather than the thing itself. That message is, "you get stuff because you're worthy". The problem is after they get the stuff, they just want more because they don't feel worthy any longer. You can help teach your kid the importance of, "cause and effect", which helps them see the value in the work it takes to get the thing, and the thing itself.
In the final video of this section, we talk about negotiating success and failure. The standards we're trying to live up too, are how we measure success. The constant message of, "not good enough", directly affects how we define success and failure. The feeling of "not good enough" can lead to not even trying; so we need to help our kids understand the true meaning behind succeeding, and how to see disappointment properly.
Welcome to Module 5! I hope you're enjoying following along so far. Let's wrap up the course in this final section, and begin with the importance of helping your kids maintain happiness and optimism about themselves, and what's ahead for them in their life.
Yes, there is even more to share about self-confidence and believing in yourself. In this video, I talk about how to help your kids develop that self-confidence and motivation. You create a culture in the home to help your children feel empowered; and to motivate them to circumvent the resistance their brain is going to offer to challenges in life.
When you're physically well, this helps you feel emotionally well. When you're not physically well, you won't feel emotionally well. I this video, I talk about the importance of physical health in long term happiness, and the 3 things to focus on when teaching your kids to take care of themselves physically.
Having routines is the best way to improve emotional wellness. Predictability = Security in knowing what to expect. Routines help regulate your nervous system, and helps you feel calmer, and in control. Routines also help your child develop organizational skills, time management, and structure which allows them to get the work done and also enjoy the free times in a fulfilling way.
In this video, I share 5 major values you want to be sure you're passing along to your children. These are the values that you want your child to develop in order to a good person, and a person that others want to be around.
