You will be in for a treat since the entire Condo is going to be painted which means anything you see that is painted will be painted again & you will learn all the types of things that will be transformed in this Condo.
I hope to see you sign up for this video course as you will learn how to identify things that need to be repaired, things that should be caulked, things that should be sanded, things that should be cleaned prior to slapping any new paint to the walls or anywhere else for that matter.
Even if you think you wouldn't know the first thing to do before painting, you will, after watching this video course.
You will see what people use to do "in the old days" as opposed how painting gets done "in the current days".
You will see how doors & frames should look & operate as opposed what doesn't look right when opening & closing doors & what could be done to fix things that aren't right.
Lots of times in older homes you will see that most painter's painted walls using flat paint. Don't repaint all your walls with flat paint! Well...what kind of paint should you use? Watch the video.
How to make your rooms look bigger with fresh paint? How would you do that? Watch the video.
Should I paint my doors in place? Don't do it!
I could go on but if you watch this preview of this video course you will learn things already for how to paint.
I hope you decide to sign up for this course. Why not? I have a feeling you will learn how to save some of your hard earned money since you will save money on painting since you will be doing things yourself this time.
Why pay someone else when you can do it yourself & that's what you will learn on all of my video courses. Take a look at some of the other video courses I have created JUST for you. Get on board & save that money of yours!
On this video you will learn how to check out the proper operation of a door when you open & close the door.
Checking your doors may also reveal a few other things for do you need to adjust any of your doors to fit better so when you close the doors they all look nice & flush when the doors are shut. You might be surprised for what you might find in case you may need to do some work on your doors prior to painting.
Do you have any cracks in your walls? You might want to decide what to do to those areas before painting.
What about taking off all the light switch & outlet cover plates? I've seen painters leave cover plates on before but not recommended. What about your light fixtures? Are you going to leave those up & paint around them? So much easier to paint ceilings with a paint roller without having much in your way.
Washer & dryer...what about painting around them? You'll learn this too.
How are your bifold doors looking (if you have any)?
Take a look for picture hangers & soiled mark areas on your walls. This stuff needs to be checked & fixed before painting. Plastic anchors? Get rid of them & caulk those holes.
What are you going to do in your bathrooms? Did you know it's best to remove towel bars & towel rings? Maybe you could install new longer towel bars & add another towel bar. Now's your chance to check that out.
What about your closet shelves? In this case the closet shelves were metal so you will need to decide to paint around or take it down.
Smoke alarms...do you really want to paint around all the smoke alarms?
Do you have a light fixture in a bedroom where you would rather remove the light fixture & install a ceiling fan? Is it even possible?
Are you really going to paint around miniblinds or window valances? You will get a better paint job if you remove & install...I know!
Lots of things to think about before getting your paint brush & roller out!
Metal shelves in closets...what a pain to remove & re-install everything but your paint job will look so good when you get done if you do it right.
Window blinds...don't paint around them! See all the work you will need to do prior to painting?
Why pay someone else when you can do it yourself so why not learn how to prep properly before painting since if you had someone else do it they will need to do the same things that you would have done other than they will charge you...hmmm.
You might not know how to prep properly & you're learning new things on this video course so you feel confident that yes you can paint your place yourself.
Are you going to re-paint everything the same colors as what you have now? You might want to think about changing your color to brighten things up...? Ceilings could be painted with a white paint to make the rooms look brighter & bigger but more work of course. It might be worth it.
Is VideoJoe going to get anyone to help him with this Condo rehab re-paint? Of course not!
Hmmm what to do around the front door. You want to make things look finished when painting? You might want to see what could be done around your front door conditions.
Plastic anchors on walls? I would rather remove them & not hammer them in flush.
Soiled areas on walls? Spend some time on removing them as best you can before deciding if you may need to prime those areas prior to applying the finish paint.
Oh brother...vertical sliding glass door blinds. Take each slay down one at a time & store & take the entire unit down. I know! Take some time & do it right since your place hasn't been painted for years so take time to do things right & you will get a professional looking paint job to boot.
Ceiling fans...are your ceiling fans old looking? You might want to replace but either way VideoJoe usually removes ceiling fans so he can paint ceilings nice & easy with a paint roller rather than trying to cut in around ceiling fan trim canopies.
Can light fixtures the trim covers should come off. I hope you don't think you're going to paint around them.
Yes a vital video to watch for sure...
Showing you what to do at doors & frames is key to a good looking paint job. You will learn a lot in this video segment. Yes if any of your doors are sagging & rubbing then you will want to carefully look at those doors & decide what you can do to fix those doors prior to painting.
As I recall VideoJoe worked on every door in this Condo rehab other than one little laundry closet door. Is VideoJoe particular? Uh huh! He likes to get things done to the best of his ability & that's what he is trying to show you on these video courses.
He doesn't care how long things take him. He just gets them done anyway.
Thanks for joining him...
Fixing doors are a must. Are you a professional painter? I didn't think so! That's why you're watching an average Joe help you save money around the house on your painting projects...right?
When you get ready to paint doors, please watch this video! Even if you are not planning on painting the doors you will still learn a new thing for how to fix spitting door hinges. what are spitting hinges & what can you do to fix that?
Squeaking doors? You can fix those too. Even the ones that you didn't know were going to squeak soon.
Check it out...
Please don't think you're going to paint your doors in place. Bad idea. You will not get a professional looking paint project if you paint those doors in place.
Now is the time you might think about upgrading your door hardware with new door hinges & door handles & door stops. You might now have the money for this upgrade since you are going to do all the painting yourself & not having to pay a painter!
If you do in fact decide to change your door hardware you might think about changing the color & style of door handles for a fresh look as well. I know...lots of things to think about before painting.
Do you have any fixed shelves that you want to remove before painting? Take your time when removing those shelves so you can clean off caulking & caulk before painting trying to blend in the existing surrounding areas for where you may be removing fixed shelving.
Do you have a little circular saw? What kind of saw should you get? Did you know it will make a difference for you? This is an important video to watch.
You'll also see why you should take a good look for things that need to be caulked & lots of times you may have to remove old caulking & paint overage prior to re-caulking. Your paint project will turn out better if you remove old caulking & old paint on window frames prior to re-caulking those areas. Take your time & do it right.
Should you sweep down your walls? I would suggest it.
See all the new things you are learning?
You will learn how to properly remove shelving from walls & what you might want to think about doing with removed shelves before cutting them up & throwing them away.
You can now start accumulating some new tools since you are now deciding to do things yourself so now you will have a bit of extra money to purchase some tools you can use for all kinds of other upcoming projects.
Is there really a proper way to remove fixed shelves? Yes!
Take your time & do things right. VideoJoe will also be showing you why he always likes using his construction light. You'll be glad you get one of these & don't forget to get some of these too.
You'll also see how to remove fixed shelving properly & what you might do with the removed shelves!
VideoJoe likes to do one thing at a time so now since he removed the shelving he wants to figure out what to do with the old shelving before moving on to the next project.
Don't get overwhelmed with every thing you will be doing for the paint prep. Take your time & slowly but surely you will progress with your project & form a game plan for what is next.
The dreaded handrail going up the stairs. Are you really going to think that you will be painting around the handrail? Don't do it! If you are going to change the color of your door hardware you might then want to decide to change the hardware color for the handrails.
See all the stuff you will be removing? VideoJoe shows you what all he is removing so you see that he actually does what he says. He wants to have this Condo rehab painting done right & this is the way to do it & to make the painting outcome look just like how a professional painter would make it look.
You can get professional painting results too if you do your prep right. See what I mean when I said "it's all in the prep"? It is.
Sliding glass door slats....oh brother, but needs to be done right. Even removing can light fixture trim covers.
Bathroom exhaust fan...remove the trim cover & a great time to remove the guts & clean out all the lint around the fan blades & motor unit. You're a cleaner now too.
Speaking of cleaning when is the last time you cleaned the top of your baseboards? That should be done prior to painting. Can you paint baseboard after cleaning the top edge? No!
Another reminder...don't paint doors in place. Don't do it.
Wall sconces & light fixtures & closet shelving...removed!
Cleaning baseboards & wiping them down then sanding them then wiping them off again is a must for nice new looking baseboards when you get done painting.
Same thing goes for painting your doors if you plan on painting your doors. In fact I have an entire video course for how to paint doors so you can do it yourself with professional painting results to boot too. You can do it!
VideoJoe always paints his doors & they look good when he gets done. It's all in the prep.
How is VideoJoe going to paint all his doors & make room for everything else if he's going to take the doors to paint? Well the garage is ready & waiting.
Before you paint now is the time to check out areas where you may see failed caulking or areas where you should apply caulking. Is there a right & wrong way to apply caulking? Maybe.
Have you ever looked at your windows? How does the existing caulking conditions look? Chances are the caulking needs to be removed & cleaned not to mention any paint on the door frames so you can decide how well you want your paint job to look when you get done.
Wiping down the walls & ceilings...really?
Here's another good idea for how to use your new construction light you got. shine it on the walls before painting & you will be amazed at what you see. do you have marks on your walls that might bleed through after applying new paint? Do you want to take the chance to just leave it there?
2 coats of caulking in certain areas? You will learn that too & why.
What do you actually need sandpaper for & what grades to use will be shown & discussed.
Keep it going!
VideoJoe just painted some doors & you will see what is possible when you paint doors on your own. You might want to take a look at that video course he has for painting doors.
He's going to review with you what he will be doing for the painting. Do you think he's ready to paint yet?
He's formulating his plan for the painting as we speak...keep watching.
Formulate a game plan each day...what are you going to do today? figure it out & get it done. You might be a cleaner. You might be wiping down wall. You might be sweeping up with a broom & you might be using a vacuum cleaner.
Do you have any high wall ledges? Vacuum & wipe down with simple green a must.
What about your air return register grills? How clean do they look? You might want to remove & clean & leave off while you are painting? How good of a paint job do you want?
Sky lights?...shucks!
Doors doors & more doors. Plenty to think about for sure.
You're going to be doing all kinds of things prior to painting...remember that.
Haha interesting development with this Condo rehab for sure!
Sometimes your project might morph into something else you weren't planning.
Go with the flow...take a deep breath & ponder a minute & see the things that might come up & change your plans a bit if need be.
The good thing is VideoJoe will be making videos of everything he will be doing on this Condo rehab. When you get a chance peruse the many video courses he has prepared JUST for you.
You will learn all kinds of things that you can do on your own if you just knew how...now you can!
Why pay someone else when you can do it yourself. Time to start investing in yourself & learning new skills to save your hard earned money.
Lots of things to think about when getting ready to paint. Now might be the time to upgrade your Condo or home.
Just know that whatever you put your mind to...you can do it! Don't ever let anyone tell you you can't do it.
That's what all my videos are about...helping you save money around the house on your how to DIY projects & repairs around the house.
This now completes this video course. Hope you learned some new things & I hope to see you again.
