This course helps to understand the critical terminologies associated with radial cams, enabling them to effectively design, analyze, and apply these mechanisms in practical scenarios. Course helps to identify and describe essential components, such as the base circle, pitch circle, prime circle, and cam profile, as well as their functional roles in the cam mechanism.
The course will also introduce students to various follower types (knife-edge, roller, and flat-faced) and their implications for cam performance. Key geometric terms, such as pressure angle, radius of curvature, and angle of rotation, will be covered, equipping students with the knowledge needed for precise cam design
Further, the course provide comprehensive understanding of motion-specific terms like displacement, velocity, acceleration, and jerk, understanding how these parameters influence the movement of the follower. It helps to make familiar with the different phases of follower motion, including rise, dwell, and return, and how these phases are represented on a cam profile in detail study.
By the end of the module, learners will have a clear understanding of cam and follower arrangements and will be able to confidently interpret engineering drawings, solve design-based problems, and communicate effectively using standard terminology related to radial cams in both academic and professional environments. To strengthen practical and technical understanding, the course also include interactive role-play exercise.
