- CompuRead highly recommends the student and parent/teacher first work with Level 1-2 to learn the basics of English alphabet. Once an understanding of all the alphabet letters are well established, the learner now can progress in more advanced reading concepts and language structure.
Description
The CompuRead Multisensory Reading Program is a series of seven courses. Level 3, continues with more advanced reading and writing concepts such as; phonetic elements of /Long ai, Long ay/, the beginning and ending blends of eigh, age, are, ight and y ending. In addition, Level 3 emphasizes the letters and concepts of advanced story reading and composition, story comprehension through Literal or Preinterpretive, Inference or Interpretive and Critical or Evaluative comprehension skills. The CompuRead Teacher’s Manual explains these concepts in great detail and in layman’s language.
Level 3 is for the 2nd and 3rd Grade child and teaches more advanced skills the 7-8 year old student would needs to further develop his or her skills in fluent reading and writing.
All stories include a downloadable PDF workbook designed for the student to writing in. This develops handwriting skills along with several aspects of eye-hand coordination leading to more advanced reading and writing activities up to the 6th Grade.
In addition, CompuRead authors have included several questions designed to test the reading and comprehension skills of the student through multiple choice exercises.
This level has 10 stories, each with three modules broken down into easily managed sections a parent and child can study.
Within Level 3, the student, with mastery of Levels 1 and 2, can now begin a more comprehensive understanding of the English language. Level 3 works with more advanced reading skills such as; letter blends, vowels and consonants among many others.
It delves deeper into developing personal character traits in; appreciation of modern transportation, using common sense reason in making decisions and working for what one receives.
Upon working with Level 3, the student is now able to more fully comprehend more complex story structure and concepts and understands what is happening in the story line.
Level 3 introduces more advanced concepts and several types of language punctuation, story mapping and how to compose a telling fiction/nonfiction story and to build a strong narrative story line, provide supporting details and facts and bring the story to an effective climax and ending. Even a young child can actually do this. This is one skill that is taught in CompuRead early in the program.
Having a background, or prestory, of what will be happening in the main story, is an educationally proven concept. It provides an expanded framework for the student to enhance the stories experience and understanding of the main story line. This provides needed prior knowledge in order for the student to be familiar with the characters and what is happening throughout the plot, even on a very simple basis.
Level 3 stories and questions require creativity and forethought, yet prepares the student for more advanced reading and writing skills for more challenging stories and learning concepts further into the CompuRead series.
These steps are critical for the student to accomplish as many of the activities and exercises as the teacher feels is needed. However, please don’t skip over these activities, they’re here for the student to fully grasp the reading process and story comprehension. They prepare the student for more challenging and advanced reading skills within the CompuRead Program.
As the stories and reading concepts are learned within Level 3 and beyond, it becomes more and more important that the student diligently apply themselves to accomplishing these activities.
The CompuRead Program is noted for its success due to the step-by-step and skill-by-skill process whereby the student maintains a proven reading skills path in learning to read. Take your time and allow the student to learn at their own pace and success will be assured.

These steps in the reading process provide additional reading experiences for the young and advancing reader in expanding reading education. They greatly assist the student along the path of fluent reading and writing. Don’t forget to download the Reading Skills Review and Certificate of Completion upon completing this course.

All stories within all the levels consists of nine defined learning steps within each story. Those steps are:
Main Idea or Value Theme. The Value Theme provides a character value needed by all students.
Prestory and Background. It’s a proven education concept that having a background to draw upon for the young reader, provides a foundation for what will be learned later in the lesson.
Listening to the Story Narrated Without Interruption. This is the narration of the structured story and the main section of each story lesson and it’s always followed with many activities for the student to enhance the learning to read process.
Phonics, Writing and Spelling which includes phonological awareness. This is critical for the young learner to master the sounds and blends of letters and learning how words are woven together in the writing process. Proper spelling is highly emphasized.
Fiction/Nonfiction Writing. Many opportunities are presented throughout CompuRead for the student to express what is being learned through the written word.
Vocabulary and Expressive Speaking which includes three levels of comprehension; literal, inference, and critical. Having an excellent command of vocabulary and being able to express it effectively is an indicator of outstanding future success.
Science Background. Designed for the young mind and to enhance the knowledge of the story’s subject, we provide further content to expand the student’s learning experience.

Home Fun. There’s all kinds of activities that can be done at home, with parents or siblings that can enhance the learning to read process.
Who this course is for:
- Level 3 is designed for the 2nd and 3rd Grade student and continues to apply the concepts learned in Level 2 to now work with the language structure and elements, advanced hand writing concepts and socially responsible themes in developing quality character traits.
Instructor
Scott began working with the CompuRead program and designed all their printed and digital materials including five technical education manuals, 156 handwriting videos, over 300 worksheets and reading charts and voice narration of over 6,000 slides and pages.
He is instrumental in developing over 60 Mingle Games designed to teach reading concepts for the elementary classroom. These games, from easy to more advanced are simple to understand yet challenging for the child's age and student abilities. All games are designed for maximum student interaction.
He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and pursued his Masters degree at Central Missouri State University. He is also an AWAI certified B2B direct response copywriter.
He has worked closely with both authors of the CompuRead program since 1985 and has been highly influential in the development of the entire CompuRead series program.
