Reading Comprehension. This is where the student can begin to really ask and answer questions in a little more depth. Students are taught how to predict an outcome, a story ending, placing the student into the story and asked, “what would they do.”

This level has 10 stories, and emphasizes the phonetic elements of, wh, ph, th, both voiced and unvoiced; ch, beginning and ending, sh, atch, alk, itch, atch, atch and many other prefixes and suffixes.

Many other reading skills are introduced and emphasized, such as...

Literal, Interpretive and Critical Skills. These skills are presented throughout the CompuRead Program and become more challenging within each level.

Picture Comprehension. A picture is remembered long after what is heard, touched or smelled. Again picture comprehension is throughout the CompuRead Program.

Phonics, Writing and Spelling. In Level 2, the student is further introduced to the concept of story telling with words. At first, in Level 1, telling a simple verbal story will suffice, but in Level 2, we take this a little further to include word meanings and vocabulary for the young student.

Writing is also continued throughout the CompuRead Program. Simple Story Mapping is shown and discussed in preparation for more advanced mapping in Level 3 and beyond.

Proper Spelling is also critical to the program and is emphasized throughout Level 2. This level also has more advanced word phrases and meanings, showing how words that are pronounced the same are spelled differently. There are hundreds if not thousands of these types of words in English. Level 2 is the beginning of a life-long love of spelling.

The CompuRead program Level 2 continues with advanced kindergarten and first grade skills in reading and writing, such as low and high vocabulary phrases.

Each module has its own video and instructions to successfully accomplish the activities leading to fluent reading and writing and provides a daily framework for your child or student to follow.

Module 1 - (Steps 1-3) introduces the child to the background of the story. This provides needed information leading up to the story and helps the child to more fully understand what the story is all about.

Module 2 - (Steps 4-6) takes a deep dive into the many reading activities needed to become a successful reader through phonics, writing, spelling, vocabulary and speaking skills.

Module 3 - (Steps 7-9) works with Science, Story Mapping and activities to be accomplished in the home with parents and siblings.

The stories in Level 2 continue with the Main Idea or Value Theme presentation and are designed to instill into a child quality individual personal characteristics, such as:

• awareness of laws that protect pets

• being thoughtful of the ill

• thinking before you act

• being a friend to everyone

• planning for the unexpected

• plus many other themes needed for today's society

Level 2 - Story 5, Biff and Chad and the Igloo, contains reading and writing concepts such as; listening and reading the /ch/ sound, knowing and recognizing opposite words, understanding the writing process and how to apply it to daily writing, vocabulary understanding and expansion, understanding lower and higher phrases.

Each story and level greatly expands upon each learned principle and concept in previous lectures. Through this step-by-step learning process, the student is taken on a study and training activity unlike any other program. CompuRead truly prepares children for the fast-paced future of tomorrow.

Level 2 is for the Kindergarten and 1st Grade child. It teaches more advanced skills the 5–6-year-old student would need to further develop his or her basic skills in fluent reading and writing.

All stories include a downloadable PDF workbook designed for the student to write in. This develops handwriting skills along with several aspects of eye-hand coordination leading to more advanced reading and writing activities up to and including the 6th Grade.

All CompuRead levels and modules are highly organized and systematic in its presentation of needed reading skills. It provides a daily framework for your child or student to follow.

MODULE 2 - Biff and Chad and the Igloo

These steps are critical for the student to accomplish as many of the activities and exercises as the teacher feels is needed. However, please don’t skip over these activities, they’re here for the student to fully grasp the reading process and story comprehension. They prepare the student for more challenging and advanced reading skills within the CompuRead Program.

The CompuRead Program is noted for its success due to the step-by-step and skill-by-skill process whereby the student takes small steps in learning to read. Take your time and allow the student to learn at their own pace and success will be assured.

Phonics, Writing and Spelling provides the student with creative ways to listen to their voice, and to recognize the sound that’s said by others.

This section continues with more advanced activities for the /ch/ sound in:

• Listening and saying Words with the /ch/ sound

• Sound sentences to read and write

• Beginning and Ending /ch/ sounds

• Consonant Ending Rule

• Fiction and nonfiction writing

• How words are alike

• Inference clues

• Cause and effect

• Vocabulary test practice

• Lower and higher vocabulary phrases

Fiction Nonfiction Writing includes several genres that the CompuRead program stories are written around. It also emphasizes the story title, main idea and the specific genre, Realistic Fiction, that this story was written under.

Vocabulary and Expressive Speaking includes relevant phrases that enhances the student’s vocabulary and sight word mastery. It introduces how a story could be changed by altering the way the story is worded. Activities included are several exercises and practice tests for multiple choice answers along with several advanced phrases for vocabulary and comprehension.

MODULE 3 - Biff and Chad and the Igloo

These steps in the reading process provide additional reading experiences for the young reader in expanding reading education. These steps greatly assists the student along the path of fluent reading and writing. Don’t forget to download the Reading Skills Review and Certificate of Completion upon completing this course.

Science Background talks about the Eskimo background, their lives and how they live today. It also discusses the various types of homes the Eskimo may live in throughout the year. Science background continues with a discussion about how the Eskimo may fish and hunt for their tradition food.

In addition, this section challenges students to build an “igloo” of their own out of marshmallows and using icing for the “mortar” to keep it together. This would be a fun project for several student to learn from.

Story Mapping again reviews the story telling and writing process and shows the various aspects of writing and how a story is composed.

Home Fun contains activities the student can be involved with at home to assist in his learning to read process.

The Certificate of Completion provides a way for the student and teacher to review the concepts learned and tracks the student’s progress through the CompuRead Courses reading program.
