Reading Comprehension. This is where the student can begin to really ask and answer questions in a little more depth. Students are taught how to predict an outcome, a story ending, placing the student into the story and asked, “what would they do.”

This level has 10 stories, and emphasizes the phonetic elements of, wh, ph, th, both voiced and unvoiced; ch, beginning and ending, sh, atch, alk, itch, atch, atch and many other prefixes and suffixes.

Many other reading skills are introduced and emphasized, such as...

Literal, Interpretive and Critical Skills. These skills are presented throughout the CompuRead Program and become more challenging within each level.

Picture Comprehension. A picture is remembered long after what is heard, touched or smelled. Again picture comprehension is throughout the CompuRead Program.

Phonics, Writing and Spelling. In Level 2, the student is further introduced to the concept of story telling with words. At first, in Level 1, telling a simple verbal story will suffice, but in Level 2, we take this a little further to include word meanings and vocabulary for the young student.

Writing is also continued throughout the CompuRead Program. Simple Story Mapping is shown and discussed in preparation for more advanced mapping in Level 3 and beyond.

Proper Spelling is also critical to the program and is emphasized throughout Level 2. This level also has more advanced word phrases and meanings, showing how words that are pronounced the same are spelled differently. There are hundreds if not thousands of these types of words in English. Level 2 is the beginning of a life-long love of spelling.

The CompuRead program Level 2 continues with advanced kindergarten and first grade skills in reading and writing, such as low and high vocabulary phrases.

Each module has its own video and instructions to successfully accomplish the activities leading to fluent reading and writing and provides a daily framework for your child or student to follow.

Module 1 - (Steps 1-3) introduces the child to the background of the story. This provides needed information leading up to the story and helps the child to more fully understand what the story is all about.

Module 2 - (Steps 4-6) takes a deep dive into the many reading activities needed to become a successful reader through phonics, writing, spelling, vocabulary and speaking skills.

Module 3 - (Steps 7-9) works with Science, Story Mapping and activities to be accomplished in the home with parents and siblings.

The stories in Level 2 continue with the Main Idea or Value Theme presentation and are designed to instill into a child quality individual personal characteristics, such as:

• awareness of laws that protect pets

• being thoughtful of the ill

• thinking before you act

• being a friend to everyone

• planning for the unexpected

• plus many other themes needed for today's society

As with all CompuRead Reading Courses, all levels consists of nine defined learning steps within each story. Those steps are:

Level 2 - Story 2, The Big Surprise – Phonetic Elements: /th/ voiced.

NOTE: Level 2 stories and questions expand upon the understanding and assumes that the Level 1 lessons and concepts are well learned and the student is able to draw upon that knowledge.

If the student is unfamiliar with the Level 1 concepts, revisit Level 1 and relearn those skills.

Level 2 concepts are built upon Level 1 mastery, and furthermore prepares for more advanced reading and writing skills in Level 3 and for more challenging stories and learning concepts further into the CompuRead series.

MODULE 1 - The Big Surprise

Module 1 contains the steps 1-3:

• Main Idea or Value Theme

• Prestory Background

• Listening to the Story Narrated

The Main Idea, “I Will Be Especially Thoughtful Of The Ill” demonstrates to the reader how to be thoughtful of the ill and how to visit them when they are feeling ill.

The Prestory Background tells about a young boy named Nick. Our story opens where Nick is ill at home. He was very sad that his friends will not come to see him when he was ill and thought his friends forgot about him and didn’t care about him.

Nick’s mother did her best to make him feel better. Then one day Nick was very surprised when his friends visited. They brought some very special presents and even mom had a wonderful present and a great surprise.

The story is written around the phonetic elements of the voiced /th/ sound and shows the reader how each letter is used in words. The audio narration provides further reading skills in insights to the listener by having the student listen to the words and sentences allowing the learner to not only see the words, but to hear them properly pronounced.

Listening To The Story Without Interruption allows the student to hear the words pronounced along with viewing the story on screen, demonstrating the relationship between letters, words and sounds.

MODULE 2 - The Big Surprise

Level 2 stories and questions expand upon the understanding that the Level 1 lessons and concepts are well learned and the student is able to draw upon that knowledge.

If the student is unfamiliar with the Level 1 concepts, revisit Level 1 and relearn that skill. They prepare the student for more challenging and advanced reading skills within the CompuRead Program.

Fiction Nonfiction Writing includes several genres that the CompuRead program stories are written around. It also emphasizes the story title, main idea and the specific genre, Animal Stories/Realistic Fiction, that this story was written under.

Vocabulary and Expressive Speaking includes relevant phrases that enhances the student’s vocabulary and sight word mastery. It introduces how a story could be changed by altering the way the story is worded. Activities included are several exercises and practice tests for multiple choice answers along with several advanced phrases for vocabulary and comprehension.

MODULE 3 - The Big Surprise

These steps in the reading process provide additional reading experiences for the young reader in expanding reading education. These steps greatly assists the student along the path of fluent reading and writing. Don’t forget to download the Reading Skills Review and Certificate of Completion upon completing this course.

Science Background tells about how to properly visit a friend who is ill and emphasizes courtesy when visiting the ill.

Story Mapping again reviews the story telling and writing process and shows the various aspects of writing and how a story is composed.

Home Fun contains activities the student can be involved with at home to assist in his learning to read process.

The Certificate of Completion provides a way for the student and teacher to review the concepts learned and tracks the student’s progress through the CompuRead Courses reading program.
