Description
This course provides an in-depth exploration of the piping and layout considerations related to compressors — one of the most critical and complex rotating equipment used in process plants. Designed for engineers and professionals involved in design, layout, or maintenance of compressor systems, this course unpacks the essential technical aspects, layout challenges, and best practices associated with compressor piping systems.
Participants begin with a foundational introduction to compressors and their associated items, building a clear understanding of the core equipment and peripheral systems that ensure efficient compressor operation. The course dives deep into compressor auxiliaries, including lube oil systems, seal systems, and cooling requirements, which are essential for maintaining mechanical integrity and performance.
Special emphasis is given to steam turbine-driven compressors—covering their unique piping and layout demands, including condensate and steam routing, control valve arrangements, and safety spacing. Learners also explore how to determine the proper elevation for compressors, taking into account suction conditions, NPSH requirements, maintenance access, and interface with process lines.
The course concludes with a comprehensive two-part module on layout aspects, illustrating real-world configurations, piping arrangements, access requirements, and spatial considerations. By using simplified visuals and practical insights, the course ensures that learners can visualize and implement effective compressor layouts.
Whether you're designing from scratch or reviewing an existing system, this course equips you with the technical foundation and practical tools needed to handle compressor layout challenges confidently and competently.
Following five modules shall be covered :
1. Definitions and types of compressors
2. Associated items of compressors
3. Steam turbine driven compressors & associated items
4. How to decide the elevation of compressors (all combinations)
5. Piping layout aspects
