This course is designed to take the learner through a step by step process to create professional videos. Everyone wants to know how to make videos but sometimes the technology is overwhelming.
This course is designed to show you through a series of 33 videos in 7 different sections on how to make videos using a variety of popular methods, which include screen capture, mobile recording, studio recording, editing and hosting.
Each module consists of a series of videos to give the level of detail you need to be successful for both PC and Mac environments. The modules run about 1 hour each.
For those who like to read what they have watched you will be given detailed digital notes on each section to enhance your learning experience. You won't need to write notes like crazy as you will have them available and you can absorb the video information.

The first portion of training is a quick start guide that is meant to get you going as quickly as possible. You will simply follow a path which entails creating a video, editing that video, and then uploading and publishing the video. This path will be extremely quick and easy for you.
Once you have decided on a service/product to promote, it is time to create your visual aid for your video. You have a number of different options. If you are using a Mac you can use Keynote, or you can use PowerPoint if you have a PC. You want to do this as inexpensively as possible, so if you don’t have either one of these program, you can use Google Drive, which is free.
After you create your outline, you are going to derive some very basic slides from it. Then, you can begin adding in notes or even create a script if you like. A screenshot of the PowerPoint program is pictured above. This is PowerPoint for a Mac, and it is very similar to PowerPoint for Windows. Again, the first thing that you will want to do is create an outline. You can do this within the program; it doesn’t matter if you are on a Mac or a PC. One helpful thing about PowerPoint is that it allows you to create your slides as you create your outline.
At this point, your recording should be ready for editing. Again, the options that you have for editing your video include Camtasia, ActivePresenter, ScreenFlow, and iMovie. Of course, if you used Camtasia, ActivePresenter, or ScreenFlow, you would use the same program that you captured the video with to edit it. If you used QuickTime, however, you would use iMovie to edit the video. iMovie is just a video editing program.
Now we are going to dive a little bit deeper into the screen recording process. t this point, you've gotten your feet wet, and you have gotten a little bit of a taste of what it's like to create your own video. Still, you have only seen one aspect of creating videos. There are hundreds, if not thousands of ways to create , publish , and edit videos. The possibilities are endless.
Camtasia was built with screen recording in mind. So, it gives you the ability to zoom in, zoom out, highlight certain areas, add transitions, and things like that. Not only does this program have screen recording capabilities, but it also has basic video editing functions:
The comparable option for Mac users is ScreenFlow. This program is essentially the same as Camtasia; it is just different in its implementation. Camtasia does have a Mac version, but it’s not nearly as good. It is what is generally referred to as a ‘ported program’, meaning that they have just taken all of the stuff on Camtasia and written it so that it works on Mac’s infrastructure. In other words, ScreenFlow was originally written with a Mac in mind where Camtasia on a Mac was actually written with Windows in mind and then adapted to be used on
Jing will soon become one of your favorite programs, and it is one which is integral part of your business. It is made by the same people who made Camtasia. While it is not technically a program that is made to make screen recordings with, it does have screen recording capabilities. Jing is completely free, which is one of the reason the team loves it so much. Another great thing about Jing is that it is both Mac and PC compatible.
In this section you will learn the basics of "studio recording", which in this case simply means a face on camera. These types of videos are useful when it comes to introducing yourself, for sales videos, for testimonials, and things like that. So, how do you make a studio recording using your Windows computer? You have a couple of different options when it comes to what types of recording programs to use. You will also learn about different strategies for setting your recording up. However, first let’s take a look at the
One of the easiest ways to make a studio recording on a Mac is to use your QuickTime player to create a new webcam capture. To begin, all you have to do is go to the top and hit ‘New movie recording’. Your camera will automatically open up as well as a window displaying what you camera is pointed at.
This section of the training pertains to recording mobile video. In the previous lesson, you learned the basics of creating studio recordings on your Mac and/or PC. However, it is honestly easier to create those videos on your mobile device, especially if you have an iOS device. An Android will essentially do the same thing in most cases. iOS devices, such as iPhones and iPads, are a little better suited toward the creation of mobile video and similar tasks.
In this lesson the pros and cons of using these devices will be covered.
If you have an Android, there are a few video editing options available for you as well. One recommended option is an application called Magisto. This application has received very good reviews. According to these reviews, it allows you to create and edit videos. You can easily upload them to YouTube, Facebook, and other social media sites from this application as well.
In this segment of the training, you are going to learn about video editing. This is arguably the most complex part of the video creation. When it comes to recording your video, you can pretty much just jump on the mic and start talking. Editing takes a little bit more skill, forethought, preparation, and things like that. So, editing is the part of the process that most often trips people up.
ScreenFlow has been covered to a certain degree throughout this training, but in order to make this training all-inclusive, we’ll take a look at some of the program’s key features. You can see in the picture above that a video has been imported into ScreenFlow. Within the timeline there is the audio representation on top, and the screen recording down beneath it.
Now, let’s walk through Expression Encoder on Windows. Expression Encoder can be used strictly for processing the .wmv file that GoToWebinar outputs. You would do this after you go through the conversion process that was demonstrated in the ‘Webinar’ section of this training. You do have to go through this conversion process.
We have taken a peak at ScreenFlow and iMovie on the Mac. So, now it is time to begin looking at video editing for Windows. If you are a Mac person, but you need to use Windows programs from time to time, then you basically have three options.
First, there is Bootcamp, which is Apple’s solution to being able to run Window on the Mac. It’s free, and it comes with your Mac. What it does is it sets up a separate partition. In other words, it divides your hard drive into two different operating systems: one is Windows, and one is Mac. This is easy to do, and it is super-powerful because you get all these resources from Mac on your Windows and Windows on your Mac.
Now that we’ve taken a look at ScreenFlow, let’s take a look at iMovie on the Mac. This program has been covered previously in the training, but not in such detail as it will be here. The iMovie iPhone app was covered in some detail, but it works a little differently than the program made for Mac users.
Now that you have learned the basics of video editing, you need to know how to make sure that you have the right file type. Whenever you export out of Expression, you are going to have a .wmv file, for instance. Just about everything else is going to export out a MP4 with an H264 codec. You don’t have to understand exactly what all of that means, but at the end of it all you want to make sure that you have your video in an MP4 format.
This section of the training is all about video hosting. This is an important aspect of your video project because at this point you would have put forth a lot of effort into creating your video, editing the video, and exporting it in the right format. However, your video is not going to be successful unless you can get it in front of your viewers. You want to get your videos playing on their monitors. There are a whole lot of different ways of doing this.
In this section we are going to take a look at Easy Video Player & Amazon S3. Keep in mind that this is a
paid option, and YouTube offers a lot of the same functionality. However, if you get into online
marketing, and you start creating videos that you don’t want downloaded and stolen, Easy Video Player
is going to be the logical choice for you.
Now that you have a basic understanding of what video hosting is, let’s take a look at YouTube. The
uploading limit that you have is going to be 15 minutes. That’s going to be fine for most training, but if
you are trying to do a webinar or something else that is over 30 minutes long, you’re going to need a
longer time. You can request an increase, and really all you have to do to get one is verify your account.
As previously stated, making a screen recording and recording a live webinar are two entirely different processes, each with its own pros and cons. Since a webinar is live, you only have the option of post editing the video. It is not very easy to edit a live event, but it is a lot more flexible. For example, you can change topics based on user feedback. So, you do have that live feedback, and something about it being live makes it more engaging to your audience.
Let’s take a moment to look at what a GoToWebinar recording looks like. While you do have the option
to use a Mac GoToWebinar, the recording function isn’t very good. This method has a lot of problems in
the past and every time he tries to do it on a test machine, it fails for whatever reason. Sometimes, the
recording would be black, the audio wouldn’t be there, it just completely crashes, or something else
Now, let’s take a quick look at AnyMeeting. Once you get to the site, you are going to have to install the Screen Sharing Plugin before you do anything else. When you click on ‘Install’, a window will appear. Click ‘Save File’, and another window will appear which walks you through the installation process. After you finish setting everything up, you will simply click ‘Install’ to finish the process.

Now, let’s take a look at how to go about recording these live events. There are two different ways that
you can record a GoToWebinar live event. If you are an organizer, you can simply hit the ‘Start
Recording’ button. You can find this button under the ‘Recording’ tab. Whenever you do that, it records
in its own codec. In other words, the recording will be in a WMV codec.
Now, there is another option out there that is ‘cutting edge’. It has just been rolled out, and it is Google Hangouts. You have probably heard of Google Hangouts by now; you may have even used it. However, let’s take a look at using Google Hangouts for the purpose of webinars, sales videos, and things like that. These sorts of things aren’t really what these hangouts are designed for, but you can use them in that way.
