Keisha Carmona-Hurst , also known as The Urban Educator, has been an educator for over 17 years! She is also a dynamic public speaker, author, and trainer. She is known for thinking “outside the box” and “coloring outside the lines” and has gained great success in her education and speaking career. Her career has taken her down many interesting and notable paths and she hopes to continue to shape lifelong learners and educate others on diversity and inclusion. Her approach to learning and inspiring is the belief that anyone can learn and make a change for the BETTER.
In the education arena, she has been, working primarily in post-secondary education. Her most notable tenure was at The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA in their Speech and Drama Department. Ms. Hurst holds a master’s degree from Regent University in Communications and a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina. She was recently accepted into the Harvard’ Institute for Urban Education and will be learning with them in the Summer of 2021 (due to COVID-19). In addition to her time at William and Mary, Keisha spent quite a bit of time with Bryant and Stratton College where she specialized in English, Communications, and Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods. She was one of the instructors chosen to travel to NY to participate in their pilot program for Blended Learning at B&S.
As a speaker and trainer with the organization Balancing Life’s Issues, she has had great success. Some of her clients/training include the National Science Foundation (NSF), the U.S. State Department, the Department of Defense, Norfolk State University, Tidewater Community College, Old Dominion University, The City of Winchester, and the Virginia Beach Health Department.
In the time that most call “spare”, Keisha writes. She is an accomplished author, having been published Essence Magazine and the online publication, Nia Magazine. Her work has also been seen on the award-winning site, Naked with Socks On. Her collection of shorts stories can also be found on Amazon.
