Empathy is the ability to accurately put yourself "in someone else's shoes"– to understand the other's situation, perceptions and feelings from their point of view – and to communicate that understanding back to the other person. Empathy is a critical skill for you to have as a leader.

Empathy is the capacity to "correctly place oneself in another person's shoes," which means to comprehend the other person's position, perceptions, and emotions from the perspective of one's own point of view, as well as the capability to transmit this knowledge back to the other person in a manner that allows them to comprehend it. In other words, empathy is the ability to "correctly place oneself in another person's shoes." To put it another way, empathy is the capacity to "appropriately position oneself in the circumstances of another person." One of the most important qualities that a good leader may exhibit toward the people they are in charge of is empathy. This is one of the most important traits you can have if you want to be a good leader, yet it's also one of the most difficult to acquire.
