Description

I love music. I love how it makes me feel and I love how it brings people together. No one should ever feel like they can't be a part of it. That's why I created the Colourform learn-to-dance program - the ultimate gateway for absolute beginners to learn how to dance to nearly any genre of music! The pedagogy is galvanised by custom-made music and a fascinating science flare, all wrapped up in a lighthearted 'gamified' experience.

Each video has been maticulously designed to be no longer than 5-10 minutes. You'll learn one idea per lesson and instantly be able to put it into practice through 'drills' and simple 'homework' tasks.

In Module 1 you'll learn:

  • how to use colour to map out parts of the body

  • how these colours match different elements in a piece of music

  • how to Groove, Sync, and Move

In Module 2 you'll learn:

  • a basic dance vocabulary to a variety of popular music genres

In Module 3 you'll learn:

  • advanced movement combinations, genre adaptation, weight transfer, contrast and freestyling

Colourform is a fun new way of thinking about dance education. It's a language designed to help bring you closer to the music and to the people around you. I can't wait to share it with you!

+ Sequencing
5 lectures 39:02

This is where the real challenge begins! Let's take 'Groove, Sync, and Move' to the next level by learning to create our own sequences of movement. It's the best way to turn the dance floor into a game that everyone can get involved in! Note: Module 3 is more difficult than those prior, so be prepared to take your time and repeat the videos as necessary.

The key to unlocking an 'infinity mindset' on the dance floor is knowing how to modify any movement using weight transfer and contrast. This can turn one simple move into many variations, and can bring you even closer to the elements of music. This will also make you look a little more impressive on the dance floor if that's what you're going for! Note: Module 3 is more difficult than those prior, so be prepared to take your time and repeat the videos as necessary.

Weight Transfer and Contrast

Dancing to one song is one thing, but dancing to many different songs is another. What if the DJ decides to change the music genre? You'll need to be able to adapt your moves and sequences. This is a unique skill that can really take your dance floor game to another level! Try this one with a friend.

Note: Module 3 is more difficult than those prior, so be prepared to take your time and repeat the videos as necessary.

Genre Adaptation
05:43

The biggest challenge for anyone on a dance floor - including professional dancers - is freestyling. That's coming up with moves on the fly that instantly match the elements of music, but which also continue to grow and develop. You'll need to use all of the skills you've learnt in the program to pull it off, and it might break your brain... BUT, all it takes is practise! Think of it as an opportunity to share your ideas with the people around you. It's not about looking cool, it's about feeling awesome.

Note: Module 3 is more difficult than those prior, so be prepared to take your time and repeat the videos as necessary.

This is it... the last lesson! I designed this final experience to replicate a real dance class scenario. You won't have to come up with the moves - that's what the teacher is for - but you will be challenged to keep up as the sequence gets longer and more complex. If you can master this lesson, then you'll definitely be ready to jump into a dance class in person. Or, you can always try one of my many Move with Colour Masterclasses for FREE on YouTube!

Note: Module 3 is more difficult than those prior, so be prepared to take your time and repeat the videos as necessary.
