A brief overview of what this Art Class is all about.
Introducing this section
Without materials, we're nowhere. This video and the list is all about the materials needed to start this course. There are some essential materials that you do need to successfully go through the course. There are also some non-essentials, which you do not need, but some of them might be nice to have and work with.
You don’t have to watch the whole video, you can only watch the first section of the video (about 4 minutes) and then go to the next one if you’re eager to start working.
This is an optional video. You can skip it if you already have blending tool or rather go to work and watch it later.
While blending isn't mandatory, it is lot's of fun to do and gives an extra level of finish to your works. What blending tools are out there for colored pencils and which would be working best? We're going to look at a selection of tools you can use for blending with colored pencils.
Introducing this section. Attached to this lesson you will also find a booklet with notes, examples and the assignments you will need for the coming lessons.
Now that we have some materials, it's time to start coloring. This lesson will get you coloring in a new way in no time.
Now that we have those basics, it's time to start blending some colors and make lovely gradients with your colored pencils.
Now that we've got some of those basics down, it's time to start a little project with it. We're going to create a sunset, but first we need to practice a little before we start the real deal.
With the practice done, let's start on creating the sunset. This lesson is in 2 parts.
Part 2 of the creating the sunset.
Introducing this section on shapes.
We're going to start this section by turning a simple ball into a beautiful sphere or ball. This is part one of that lesson.
We're going to continue working on the ball. Once the ball is ready, we're going to introduce blending. If you don't want to blend, you can skip that part of this video.
In this video and the next we're going to do some more shapes. I'll be demonstrating drawing these shapes with various kind of colored pencils, you can just use the ones you have used so far. Instead of using various colored pencils, we're going to limit ourselves to using only 2 colors. This video discusses a ball and square with 2 colors.
We're continuing the shapes with a cylinder and cube.
This is bonus video. In this video I demonstrate how easy it is to mix and match various brands. This is more of an informative video, you may skip it if you want to do so.
In this section we're going to practice with what we've learned so far, by drawing and coloring a character. This character and the coming projects you can find in the book of notes and assignments part 2.
Sometimes you might be using thicker paper that you can't print on or work from a reference you can't trace or simply don't have a printer available. If so, then this extra lesson of the grid method is here to rescue you.
If you're already familiar with the grid method or use a light box you can skip this video if you want.
We've learned a lot and before we move to our final projects, we're going to practice a little. For this we're going to work with a character called Turtle Boy. There are 2 versions of Turtle Boy, an artistic version and a outlined version, more as in coloring books. Pick the one you would like to do or go for both if you're adventurous. This is first part of the 3 part lesson of the artistic version.

Turtle Boy artistic version part 3
In this 3 part lesson we're going work on the outlined version of Turtle Boy.
Part 2 of the outlined version of Turtle Boy.
Part 3 of the outlined version of Turtle Boy.
Well done. You arrived at the final projects. You don't have to do all of them, you are free to pick the one(s) you prefer to do. Enjoy applying all you've learned in this Art Class.
The final projects starts with a lovely toadstool on just regular paper. This is the outlined version and will be done in 4 parts. You can of course choose any paper you like for this. Feel free to fast forward through this video if needed or set the playback speed faster.
Part 2 of the outlined toadstool final project.
Part 3 of the outlined toadstool final project.
Part 4 of the outlined toadstool final project.
This is an extra video. If you have a light box already or want to keep on working, feel free to skip it. Before we move to next final project, a little extra video demonstration of using a light box. This is a great alternative to the grid method showed earlier.
Let's try to get rid of the outlines in this version of the toadstool final project. If you don't own the same paper I use, don't worry, your paper will work fine too. The outcome may be different then, but that's fine.

We're starting another final project This one is a flower on mixed-media or multi-technique paper. This is the outlined version and will be done in 4 parts. You can of course choose any paper you like for this. This project I'm not going to do the whole flower step by step, but only the important parts. Once I'm done with the important parts, I'll let you figure out the rest. No worry, you should be able to do so with all the knowledge you already have gained. There are a couple of speed-draw videos too where I finish the whole flower for you to watch.

This project is the flower on mixed-media or multi-technique paper, but this time I'll be using a textured/rougher version of that paper. This is the artistic version without outlines and will be done in 4 parts. You can of course choose any paper you like for this. This project I'm also not going to do the whole flower step by step, but only the important parts. Once I'm done with the important parts, I'll let you figure out the rest. No worry, you should be able to do so with all the knowledge you already have gained. There are a couple of speed-draw videos too where I finish the whole flower for you to watch.

Colored Pencils Art Class
Have you noticed the difference between your average, regular coloring work and a well done coloring page or colored pencils drawing? It is simply amazing how much expression, personality, beauty and details one can put into coloring once you obtain some special techniques in using your colored pencils well.
My name is Benjamin Aeilkema and I’m an Illustrator and Artist from The Netherlands. I love creating Artworks with all kinds of materials. One of the beauties of working with colored pencils is that there is so little hassle involved in using them. They give such an easy, consistent and satisfying workflow.
This ever so satisfying workflow may not be your experience right now. Over the past few years I met many people who struggle to bring their coloring skills to the next level. Along with people who never managed to get started with building the right coloring skills, but who still would really love being able to make truly lovely colored pencils drawings.
Some of the struggles people have shared with me.......
“All the great colored pencil drawings tutorials I have come across online are done with really expensive pencils and high quality brand paper. Trying their lessons with cheaper materials doesn’t work at all, but I can’t afford all of the stuff they recommend.”
“I would really love to learn the techniques needed to make great colored pencil drawings, but every course I’ve tried, was either too complicated or just way too tedious and cumbersome. Demanding so many hours of hard work on each drawing, that it really was disheartening.”
“Do I really have to learn all the art-theory to improve my coloring? That is just so boring and isn’t appealing to me at all. I just want better coloring results without being dragged down by all the over-my-head boring stuff.”
“The thing I don’t like about the courses I’ve tried, is that I only learn follow-along-steps. When I’m done with the project presented, I still can’t apply the techniques to my own work, so I keep getting stuck all the time. Once again needing someone to guide me through the process.”
A number of years ago I found myself facing the same struggles. Nevertheless, I somehow was convinced that I could discover the right techniques to conquer these challenges. Techniques to unlock the mystery of making beautiful, impressive coloring pages and colored pencil drawings, without it being so hard to learn. And without being forced to spent a fortune on very expensive materials.
Guess what? Once I figured out what these very specific techniques are, I developed ways to master them. You will be glad to hear that these ways are actually not that hard at all.
So now without things getting really complicated, boring, tedious or expensive, you too can make a colored pencils work that will WOW people and put a big smile on their face. I love how much you can accomplish with such a well-known and readily available medium, if you just know the right techniques and the right way to apply them. All of that with a method that works with any brand and any paper!
