How to get your own personalized certificate for your wall—or a CEU certificate! directly from me when you complete the cours
Ok, as promised, I am going to teach you the basics of doing cupping in under 2 minutes.
Here is the reason that I do not like making big red or purple spots when doing cupping. However, if you have no problems with it then you can leave the static cups on for longer but I see no additional therapeutic benefits by doing this.
So how exactly does cupping work and what can it treat? Let's find out.
I will be using two different types of cups throughout the course, one type I will not use and I go into why I don't like them that much. Here is a look at one type of cups and why I like them.
I really like these cups as well and they are great to regulate the pressure accurately. You can also put a lot more pressure into the cups with these too. However , I still prefer the silicone cups over these. It is just a personal thing I guess..
I will show you how to do cupping on my sons' back and neck to give you a bit of an idea.
Cupping is great for treating muscle and joint pain but there are a few conditions where you should not treat someone, otherwise known as contraindications.
There are many places that you can do your cupping around the house. Obviously if you are a therapist you will use your massage table.
If you have cups already you can have a practice on your forearm. If you don't, you can still watch this lecture to make sure that you know what to do as we are about to get into section 2.
The Facebook group and Instagram are great resources for you
I just want to give you a clear idea of how the section of the course is designed
When you treat neck pain there are several ways that you can treat people depending on your circumstances. Here I go through several setups for you
Here you get to find out how to treat your own neck with the cups so have fun and loosen up the neck and shoulders whilst you watch the course.
I am going to show you how to do cupping for someone with them laying facedown. This is a wonderful treatment at the end of the day for someone that is stressed.
Here we look at adding in some more advanced techniques including acupressure point stimulation with the cups and also active and passive movements as well. Also, please be aware that if you have a massage client on the table, you will obviously only be able to do their active/passive movements with them in a supine position.
Here is a great neck exercise that helps neck pain beautifully.
Here I teach you about the shoulder and rotator cuff and also how impingements happen and what to do about them. You will also learn the one rotator cuff muscle that is the main culprit 90% of the time and why.
This is how you treat any shoulder problem whether it is impingement or a frozen shoulder. Make sure that after you have done this treatment you then do cupping on the biceps and chest areas as well. (which you learn about in the upcoming lectures)
These are the specific exercises that you should give the person to strengthen their rotator cuff and restore pain free range of movement
Frozen shoulder is completely different from rotator cuff tears and impingements and has to be treated differently.
Here are the specific exercises to do for a frozen shoulder. You want to have the person using their frozen shoulder and keep it moving but not so much as it hurts them which will inflame the shoulder even further.
This is a fantastic thing to do to help stiff and painful upper backs.
This is a great way to help coughs and colds, chest tightness from poor posture and respiratory issues.
Here is the way to cup the biceps area, apart from treating injuries it is great for people that have been doing biceps workouts
This is a very common complaint, tennis elbow and traditionally difficult to treat.
Here is the way to do cupping for a tennis elbow treatment
Here are some exercises that you should give to the person you are treating so that they can do them at home between treatments.
On the opposite side of the elbow, the medial epicondyle , we have what is known as golfer's elbow.
Now let's take a look at carpal tunnel syndrome.
Here is the way to do cupping for this area. make sure that your pressure is very light in this area due to the superficial veins in the forearm.
here are some exercises to help the person that suffers from carpal tunnel syndrome.
Now I show you how you can also add in active and passive movements to the arm and forearms.
Here is how to treat hand pain and also it must be included as part of your treatment when doing carpal tunnel and golfer's elbow. It is also wonderful to do on yourself when you are relaxing watching TV.
This is something that you can get the client to do between cupping sessions.
This is such a great modality to help stress and completely relax someone-as you will see with my son.
Here is a lovely way to completely relax someone and melt the tension out of their back and neck. You can get as creative as you want, here is just a framework of cupping strokes that will give you a starting point, and then you can do wild with your imagination. remember to ask your partner or massage client if you are practicing on them( a good friend for example that knows you well) to tell you which strokes/techniques feel best.
Now we are going to focus on the lower back, hips and lower extremeties.
Let's take a look at the lower back and the common causes of lower back pain
Here we look at treating the lower back with cupping.
Let's now take a look at how to treat sciatica successfully, with cupping and also therapeutic exercises.
I want to be clear on the exercise and treatment guidelines and what to do if someone has a worsening of symptoms.
There are lots of things that can give pain in this region so I will go through how to treat each of them successfully.
For those of you that have week stomachs you can skip this lecture and move onto the next. Here I show you how to treat my hip and buttock area.
If you have someone that has a hamstring strain you can do some light cupping on their hamstrings and this is also a great treatment if someone is sore from their hiking or gym workout where they have been really working their legs.
Here is how to do basic cupping for the hamstrings
Now to take a look at the thighs, otherwise known as the quadriceps.
It is time to show you how to treat the thighs using cupping
Iliotibial band syndrome is also known as runner's knee. It affects the lateral side of the knee. It is generally seen in long distance runners. Here is how to treat it with cupping. Oh, by the way, don't bother trying to do deep tissue massage as it hurts and is very ineffective. Cupping is a much better modality by far.
When it comes to treating knee pain, you work the whole leg including the foot. In other words, do everything that you have done so far and also the knee treatment from this lecture.
Here is how to treat your own knee pain, and then adapt this to treat your clients.
Cupping on the calves is both really effective for calf pain and cramping but it also feels wonderful. Remember to avoid varicose veins and if the person has a history of deep vein thrombosis you should not cup them
Now it is time to help loosen up the calves.
So may people don't stretch their calves correctly. Here is the way that you should do it.
I am sure by now you know how to do this, I go through the basics just to remind you.
It is time to look at ankle pain and also how to treat acute sprains as well
It is really important that when you are treating acute injuries that you know when to treat and when not to.
OK, now let's do some cupping to help ankle pain. Ankles sprains are the number 1 sports injury so it is good to know what to do for them
Many times people that have had ankle sprains continue to have pain at the front of the ankle when they compress it. It very commonly is due to trigger point pain so I show you how to help this client and also a great stretch that they can do for it.
This is one of the best ways to treat plantar fasciitis/heel spurs, foot pain and if you have been on your feet all day and have tired aching feet. It will refresh them beautifully! Also, after the treatment, rolling a ball under your foot is a fabulous way to help your feet even further.
This is one of the best ways to treat plantar fasciitis and foot pain. It feels heavenly too!
Here is something that works well for not only plantar fasciitis but also to relieve foot pain and tired aching feet at the end of the day in front of the television
Should you stretch a muscle for 45 seconds, or will it be better to do it for 2 minutes? Here is what the research studies have learned and what is the optimal time to stretch for.
How often should you treat someone?
Throughout the course I have focused on what is known as gliding cupping but, yes, you can do static cupping as well without making red or purple marks on someone. Here is why you might think about using static cupping when treating someone.
If you know how to do acupressure then this is a great way to enhance your treatments even further. You can do the sliding cupping techniques and also stimulate the acupoints as well. Here I show you how to do this effectively.
Does this certificate allow me to work and sell products?
Congratulations , you have completed my course!
