Master cinematic lighting for 3D renders in Maya with Arnold, covering interiors, objects, and characters. Apply lighting, camera settings, composition, storytelling, assets, and post-production to elevate your portfolio.
Master the scene setup in Maya lighting. Study cinematic composition and lighting, using a chessboard exercise to practice camera angles, keyframes, bookmarks, and quick texturing.
Explore how lookup tables (LUTs) streamline color grading in post production, loading cube LUTs to quickly achieve cinematic looks while adjusting with curves, color balance, and film grain.
Explore camera angles to enhance haunted hallway scenes by adjusting focal length and camera position to create Hitchcock’s vertigo-like stretch, supported by practical lighting and rendering notes.
Learn to create a midday interior render in Maya by balancing sun, skylight, and bounce light, grouping lights, and using color balance to achieve natural, cinematic shadows.
Learn to present character renders with a classic three-point lighting setup, Rembrandt illumination, clay renders vs textured renders, and an infinite background studio to frame the character.
Master dramatic character lighting by exploring symmetrical, equilibrium, rule of thirds, and golden ratio compositions, then apply three-point, Rembrandt, top, and front lighting with exposure and spread tweaks.
Apply displacement to fabric using a Substance texture in Maya with Arnold, tune tiling and subdivision, and adjust scale, color saturation, and roughness for a realistic cloak render.
Create a backplate for a final composition by working with alpha channels in Maya and Photoshop, masking the scene, and integrating a sunset backdrop with gamma and exposure adjustments.
Apply curves, color balance, selective layer effects, and LUTs to deepen shadows in a 16-bit scene, push the background back, and add grain for depth.
