Welcome to the course! I hope your ready to start creating some amazing artwork. In this lecture I'd like to introduce myself and tell you why I am qualified to be teaching drawing to you. Then I will briefly introduce the painting we are going to learn - Chinese painting (Mogu painting).
Painting is the art of life. Unrestrained and free expression is particularly important in artistic creation.
Explore tools and pigment types in Chinese modern ink painting—solid pigments, paste-like paints, and powdered pigments—with notes on folding ink, glue-painted pigments, and gold powder.
Explore different ink brushes: color pens, water pens, and outlining pens; learn their uses, warm and cold colors, and how hair types like wool, wolf, and tip hairs affect linework.
Explore Xuan paper types—raw and cooked—and how cooked paper prevents water permeation for ink paintings. Try cardboard-backed Xuan cards and compare antique versus white cards for painting styles and practice.
Learn how to hold the brush
Learn some important basic brushwork techniques
Know when and how to apply these technologies
Understanding the application of colors in painting expression.
Several basic but important techniques are introduced.
In this course, the teacher will show you how to choose a pen and how to select colors from the very beginning. Then the teacher will demonstrate in detail how to draw a leaf. You can see the gradient of colors produced by the ratio of pigment to water and the application of colors onto the Xuan paper using different brushwork methods during the painting process.
By drawing different leaves, you can more profoundly feel the expression of light and shadow, as well as the painting expression of leaf shapes and postures.
Now that you have a general idea of how to draw leaves, please pay more attention to the every details when handling each leaf painting. Pay more attention to the painting techniques of brushwork and color that I have shown you.
You have learned how to draw various individual leaves. Now let's start an exercise with a group of small leaves as the subject. Perhaps what you draw at the beginning won't be so ideal. This is normal. More practice is particularly important in painting. You can watch the above course on individual leaves several more times and follow the teacher to draw a few more times. Then come back to this exercise and you will find that what you draw this time has made great progress compared to before.
In this class, I will show you step by step how to draw different petals. During the process of petal painting, you will experience the gradual change of colors, the expression of layers, the technique of transparent painting, and the combination of colors.
You have learned how to draw individual petals. In this class, we will practice drawing a combination of petals using the knowledge we have learned, which will include the drawing methods of flower branches and leaves that we have learned before. This is a bit like a small painting!
Engaging in additional practice will facilitate more rapid progress.
Now that you have learned all of the fundamentals it's time to start putting that knowledge to use. In this lecture you will learn the basic drawing techniques when it comes to still life's. Let's take lotus flowers as an example to start our still life painting course.
It's important that you not only learn how to draw objects but also please pay attention to the details of drawing. In this lesson you will learn how I go about drawing a still life. It can seem daunting when you see a whole pods but I'll show you how to break it down into manageable tasks.
After we analyze this still life, please follow my presentation step by step to complete the painting. This is a challenging process. Once we complete it step by step, it will be an important milestone.
Learn how to draw lotus leaves this course, we will use the techniques of drawing leaves we have learned before to draw lotus leaves. Although lotus leaves are leaves, they also have their own characteristics. Please watch carefully how I show and explain to you how to draw lotus leaves. Different painting techniques of lotus leaves, as well as various brushwork skills and color matching were also demonstrated in the course.
In this course, I will demonstrate the painting method of the leaf veins based on the actual growth appearance of the lotus leaf veins, combined with appropriate brushstrokes. You will see that for the same leaf veins, different colors are chosen for painting depending on their positions. At the same time, you will also notice that the leaf veins have different structures depending on the condition of the leaf surface.
You have already learned how to draw the various components of a lotus in the above course. In this class, I will show you how to use the knowledge we have learned to draw a beautiful blooming lotus flower. You will learn about the selection of materials and the sequence of painting. This is very important. This can help you find the starting point among the complex combinations of still life.
Master freehand lotus painting by arranging petals, outlining veins, and drawing dense stamens using rouge, gold powder, and selective water blends, guided by observation and layering.
Master lotus stems and blooms by selecting appropriate brushes, adjusting color with green and blue, guiding the center of gravity; use a water pen for planning and apply gold powder.
In the fomer lesson, we learned how to draw a single lotus flower. Now you'll learn how to complete a full creation. In this lession, what you can learn is the first thing we need to do before creating a real painting work--chose the materials and composition. This lesson I will show you how to chose materials and how to make a right composition.
Put the knowledge learned before into practice. I will show how I compose, choose colors, the sequence of painting, the selection of brushes, the drawing of lines, the filling of colors, the use of light and shadow, the transition of colors, etc. All the knowledge learned will be seen, applied and demonstrated here.
In this class, I will demonstrate how I represent layers, three-dimensionality and transparency. I will also demonstrate my pen-holding posture and brushwork details in painting many times.
In this class, I will demonstrate my drawing sequence when there are many objects in the picture and how I analyze placing different objects in different positions. Then you will also see me show the transitions between different colors and the transitions between the same colors. Through the study of this class, you will have a better understanding and experience of the knowledge and techniques you have learned before.
In this lecture you are going to learn more technique that will allow you to copy a photograph exactly as you see it. The technique consists of breaking your photo into a grid system. Then you imagine the same grid system onto your paper and transfer the content of each square on your photograph to your paper. then please pay more attention to see how I draw these details though the paining.
Let's practice drawing leaves again. The leaves of the hibiscus have their own characteristics. Learn to observe real objects. Only after having a better understanding of them can express oneself better. At the same time, I will also show a special way of using the brush to better express the characteristics of its leaves.
Let's practice drawing petals again. Once again, experience the transition between light and dark colors and the combination and use of colors.
You have already learned how to draw the various components of a lotus in the above course. In this class, I will show you how to use the knowledge we have learned to draw a hibiscus branch. In addition to the key knowledge I mentioned above, pay more attention to the amount of water on the brush during the painting process. This is a very important factor in painting.
I shows more leaf vein painting techniques, which will make the leaves look more three-dimensional and realistic. At the same time, I also showed more detailed paintings of the branches and the treatment of the connection between the branches and the leaves.
Similarly, every true work begins with the selection of materials and composition. A better understanding of composition will make the entire painting look more harmonious.
Practice again the transition of color shades, the brightness and darkness of light, and the various postures of petals. I will also show you how to draw the petals more transparently. Applying the basic knowledge learned before, during the painting process, I will once again show you how to reflect the positional relationship between objects through painting and how to connect each object. Feel the colors spreading on the rice paper over time.
I will demonstrate color matching. Make it look more realistic by adjusting the color of the branches. At the same time, by adjusting the lightness of the color, the object appears more three-dimensional. I will also demonstrate how the unified use of curved lines in the overall picture can make the picture more soft and beautiful. I will also show how to draw a tough branch. Please observe carefully the different brushstrokes I used when drawing leaves, petals and flower branches
In this class, apart from the demonstration of flower paths and flower paintings, I also presented in detail the painting of flower stamens. For the painting of the flower stamens, I used the technique of piling up powder, which was very interesting.
In this class, I demonstrated the drawing method of animals for everyone for the first time. For beginners, for this more complex animal, you can first roughly outline its lines. Then proceed with the painting with a brush. Meanwhile, I also demonstrated to everyone the important role of water in painting. For different parts, I used different brushes and techniques.I draw very slowly, step by step for everyone to explain, please be careful to observe.
You have completed this course. Painting is a lifelong learning process, but the knowledge you gain from this course, you have already had a good start. During the process of painting, you will experience progress and peace. Thank you for attending my course:)
