In Chinese Language each noun requires a measure word.
For example, in English, we can simply say “five books.”
In Chinese, we have to say “five (measure word) books”.
Please note the following formula “number + measure word + noun”.
You already know what measure word is.
There are plenty of measure words in Mandarin Chinese.
Using not only the universal measure word 个 ge will make your speech sound more authentic.
Please note the following formula “number + measure word + noun”
Now it will be logical if now you want to know how to say THIS book or THAT book in Chinese.
So word “THIS” we have learnt before when we studied the phrase
‘这是什么?’ Zhè shì shénme? “What is this”
So “THIS” in Chinese is 这 Zhè。
If we want to say “THIS BOOK” you can say 这本书 Zhè běn shū.
If you want to say “This table” we just say 这张桌子 Zhè zhāng zhuōzi
Please do not forget to use a measure word before noun.
In this video we will learn how to say “How much is it?”
多少钱 duō shǎo qián?
多 “duō” means “much, many”
少 “shǎo” means “less, few”.
多少 “duō shǎo” means “how much”
钱 qián means "money"
Here we will learn how to require about the price of an object you need.
How much is an apple? 苹果多少钱?Píngguǒ duōshǎo qián?
How much is the pen? 笔多少钱?Bǐ duōshǎo qián?
How much is watermelon? 西瓜多少钱?Xīguā duōshǎo qián?

something + number + 块 + (钱)

DO NOT FORGET to practice after this lesson!
Here you will learn the second way how to ask price in Chinese!
Here we will use the interrogative word 几 jǐ. We have met it before when we asked age in Chinese
你几岁了? Nǐ jǐ suìle?
Please remember that 几 jǐ refers to an uncertain number which is roughly under 10. So if you are not sure about price but you know it's small you can use the following structure:
几 + 块 + 钱 Jǐ + kuài + qián
For example, if you want to ask “How much is the pen” you can say:
笔几块钱?bǐ jǐ kuài qián?
Learn new words and do not forget to repeat previously learned one!
Let’s learn how to ask the question “How many people are there in you family”
你家有几口人?Nǐ jiā yǒu jǐ kǒu rén?
Please remember that 几 jǐ is an interagotive word which helps us to us “how many” and it is put where the answer should be.
For example:
你家有几口人?Nǐ jiā yǒu jǐ kǒu rén?
我家有三口人。Wǒ jiā yǒu sānkǒu rén.
I have a family of 3.
