Description
From the age 7-14yrs children life forces are centered around their “feeling life”. during this stage it is important to optimize children’s feeling and imagination. The emotional life of children should be well nurtured before fostering their intellectual development. You first build a healthy body and a rich soul life though hand-on experiences, drawing, painting and music, then you have the foundation to develop the intellect.
It’s useless for children to have opinions or facts at the most fundamental level, yet they don’t have relationship to the world because it doesn’t come to through their experience and their “feeling life”, for their imagination has not been given the time or space the space to develop. If you plant a seed in rich soil, and you grow a really strong plant, that is the human being who can survive in the real world. If you take a seed and you put it in poor soil, and little sun and little rain and tons of fertilizers and expose it to real life circumstances it is not going to survive.
The development of imagination is extremely important since it nurtures our “feeling life” and helps us establish solid relationships with the world. Imagination is the basis of creativity and true freedom. We need to be imaginative in order to be able to create new ways of thinking and to foresee different possibilities for solving problems and accomplishing tasks and goals. We also need to be imaginative in order to access ways of thinking that transcend the reality that our seven senses can perceive.
The best stage to focus on the child’s intellect is on their third stage of age between 14-21, for only then the child’s life forces will be centered on their intellect, since the goal is to deepen the understanding of children’s development and education at the elementary level.
Arts is integrated into all various subjects taught, be it language arts, math or sciences, the arts together with the story telling stimulate the creativity and imagination of the students and these in turn energize their motivation to learn.
The arts complement the sciences, by being encouraged to draw the phenomena of the natural world, the youngsters are taught to observe more consciously and carefully. This in turn will further stimulated their interest in the world around them. The arts teach divergent rather than convergent thinking. They ask student to come up with different rather than similar solutions, they teach youngsters that there are many correct answers and interpretations. Arts individualize while at the same time sensitizing the young person to the achievements of other human beings and cultures. One thing that is often forgotten is that the arts teach control and discipline, for each art has its own set of tools and rules that have to be followed in order to have a satisfying and successful experiences.
Realizing that a healthy moral foundation has to be established at the age 7-14 when the heart responds to all learning. Therefore, the underlying goal is to awaken wonder and develop appreciation, respect and moral responsibility with each subject presented to the children. This approach is a key component in order to develop a balanced and socially healthy response towards their natural and human diversity should have been fostered.
