Description
My courses offer business advice for the real world from a successful CEO's perspective. This is the first in a series.
Who's this course for?
Anyone with ambition, whether you're already in the business world, or you're about to embark on your new career. In either case, it's time for you to be recognized for what you know and what you can do.
Specifically, the course is for you if:
You're ready to move up to a more senior leadership role: CEO, CMO, CFO, CTO, COO, VP, SVP, Director, Manager or Supervisor
You're unhappy/unsatisfied at work and need to hit the reset button
You've been facing roadblocks at work and need to move on
You keep getting passed over at work and see no future there
You've seen an advertised position that fits you perfectly
You've been told about an interesting position you'd be great for
You have a favorite company you want to work for
You've been terminated at work (laid off, fired, restructured, etc.)
And there's a special lecture if you're about to graduate and want to get a great position quickly
EXTRA: The 5 surprising things you'll dislike about being a CEO and how to deal with them
If any of these situations apply to you, enroll now! And remember that enrolling in the course has zero risk; you have a 100% money-back guarantee if you feel this course doesn't provide the information you need to get to the next level of your career.
Main Objective: to get you to the next level
Sub-objectives: you will be able to:
Find the positions that will further your career. You'll learn the two most effective processes to find your next position.
Decipher job ads to learn what companies are really looking for - you'll be able to determine what your application should focus on. Here's a tip: HR managers don't expect to find someone with all the qualifications and experience they are asking for.
Create an application that gets you noticed. You're going to be up against serious competition. I'll show you step-by-step what you need to do to stand out.
Ace the in-person or online interview - make them want you. We all dread interviews. You'll be able to answer the most important things you'll be asked about; like "tell me about yourself". You'll also learn the toughest questions I ask when interviewing executives and what I expect to learn from their answers. You'll be so ready, your mindset for the interview will be "bring it on".
Determine whether the new company's offer is worth it, and how to ask for more.
Learn the 7 things you must do right away in your new position. Getting the position is only half the battle. Proving yourself to be a valued asset is another thing. I'll explain what I've done to get noticed and valued at the outset, and why it's your critical first step.
Understand the importance of quitting your job gracefully, and how to do it right.
Discover how my best University and College students land a great position quickly or start their own company before graduating. Learn the processes they followed.
Real-world Business Cases: interspersed within the lectures will be business cases where I tell you about situations I've encountered that relate to the lectures, how I dealt with them, including what worked for me and what didn't.
Bonuses:
a) PDFs that summarize each section's lectures. Since I provide the notes for you, you can simply watch the lecture and refer to my notes later.
b) Example of a detailed position description and interview guide. After 45 years in business, these documents are, in my opinion, best practices.
c) Exploratory assignments that offer realistic scenarios for you to resolve (with detailed answers from the Instructor). SAMPLE ASSIGNMENT QUESTION: "You're great at controlling a meeting. You're thinking about controlling the interview (5 person) and telling them what you want them to know. How far do you go in controlling the interview?"
d) EXTRA: 5 Surprising Things You'll Dislike About Being a CEO (and how to deal with them) is the last lecture. I discuss what I didn't expect the first time I became a CEO.
Final thoughts
This course focuses on a) your career development, b) embracing leadership roles and c) augmenting what you learned in your MBA, BBA, Bachelor of Commerce or life experience.
If there's anything you would like me to include in this course, let me know and I'll do my best to add it.
And finally, if you're not convinced the information in my course will help take you to the next level, you have a 100% money-back guarantee within the first 30 days of enrolling.
Kind regards,
Bruce

Instructor
Beyond The MBA courses offer business advice for the real world, from an accomplished CEO.
My goal is for you to learn how to fast track your career based on what I've learned in my drive to become a CEO.
When I completed my MBA my biggest disappointment was the lack of courses about nuances, barriers and relationships in business - things I had to learn by trial and error throughout my career. I'll help you skip the trial and error part.
My courses will teach you how to remove roadblocks, build your confidence, increase your influence, deal with difficult people and capitalize on (often unobvious) opportunities.
Kind regards,
H. Bruce Jones, Entrepreneur, Professor and Semi-Retired CEO
Introduction: The BEYOND THE MBA courses teach you the insider knowledge to recognize and capitalize on opportunities for success. I’ve seen things, heard things and learned things in my climb to the CEO position and I’m here to share what I’ve learned.
I chose BEYOND THE MBA as the name for the program since I believe that an MBA, BBA or BComm can only take you so far. As great as these programs are, they do not offer courses on impressing your bosses, dealing with workplace stress, managing office politics, gaining influence, developing allies, neutralizing opponents, firing non-performers and much more. I cover these topics using advice, tips and personal business stories.
Essentially, my courses provide you with the insider knowledge to recognize and capitalize on opportunities for success. Spoiler Alert: you don’t have to be a tyrant to get ahead.
Who my courses are for:
- People who want to lead and have influence wherever they work.
- University and College students entering the business world
What's my teaching style?
Story-Based: real world examples based on my experiences including lessons I learned and advice for dealing with similar situations.
Honest: I tell you what worked for me, where things went wrong, and why. (For example, one of my lectures will be called "I was fired - Did I say the wrong thing?")
Diverse: Advice is derived from my experience in both public and private corporations as well as my 3 successful start-ups since 2010. As CEO of a fourth start-up, I shut the company down just prior to launch when infighting among my executive team members made it untenable (I am considering using that as an example of a business "gone wrong").
Professional: University/college professor, Educator of the Year (Oulton Career College), MBA and Bachelor of Education
Teaching testimonials
Educator of the Year: "Bruce shows great leadership, inspiration and passion for the subjects he teaches and the students he mentors.
He believes in sharing his own personal experiences, both good and bad - his perception is that it is important to also share experiences where things went wrong in his own career to emphasize that things can and will go wrong, how it can impact your success overall and most importantly - how to bounce back.
I have overheard his students on multiple occasions, selling the program to other students...". Rachel Pletz, Director of Education, Oulton College (Career College)
"Thank you for being a powerful and positive impact in my life. Just the little bit of time I spent in your presence gave me a look at how to be professional. How to treat others with Love and Respect. And most of all, you showed me how to make things fun." Raphael Lajoie, Multiple Business Owner
"Bruce is an amazing teacher and mentor, he really knows how to motivate and inspire his students and peers, and he always has a smile on his face.
It really never felt like work, even though we learned so much valuable information and skills from him and accomplished many things over our time together...". Shane Spicer, Entrepreneur
"He knows how to keep people engaged and wanting more. I made an effort not to miss Bruce's class because it was always interesting, engaging and enlightening.
Bruce is very down to earth, smart, witty, and most of all caring.
I will miss him for his personality, his practical know-how and his wealth of business knowledge." Kerri MacLeod, Sales Professional
Career highlights: VP Corporate Marketing of a billion-dollar gaming company (AL), VP Strategy of a successful ad agency (Revolution Strategy), CEO of a market intelligence and strategy company (Omnifacts), CEO of a marketing advisory business (Bruce Jones & Associates Ltd.), and founder/co-founder of 3 successful startups launched between 2010 and 2015 (industries were mental health, competition off-road motorcycles, and business consulting).
Along with mentoring my students, I’ve recently become a mentor helping my clients advance in their careers (people just like you).

Academically, I have a Bachelor of Education plus an MBA in Marketing and Management. In my spare time, I've been a Commerce Faculty Professor at Mt. Allison University as well as Oulton Career College, both on Canada's east coast. In fact, the Stuff You Should Know series of lectures originated from my focus on preparing students for the realities of business.
For fun - On a personal note, my family and I enjoy our coastal home overlooking Canada's warmest sandy beach (unbelievably warm for Canada, with water temperatures up to 29 degrees Celsius, 84 degrees Fahrenheit - you'd think I worked for the province's tourist bureau).
And finally, every chance I get, I take my beloved KTM motorcycle exploring the back trails around the province of New Brunswick.
