I share the course outline in this video segment.
A brief review of the older processes we were told to adhere to.
If 70+% of all jobs are not listed on job boards, why do we spend so much time hanging out here?
Everyone wants to find a way to tear down the applicant tracking systems.
Don't position yourself as a job seeker. Instead, as a professional looking to have good open conversations.
Interviews with people who don't yet know you are often less conversational and worthwhile.
This is how you end up at the end of the line. Following everyone else doing the same stuff.
Be different, be better, be unique, be unusual, be unexpected. This is how you stand out from the crowd.
Everyone gives up way too early. Don't be like everyone else.
Many fail to plan. Some plan, but very few execute their plans consistently and completely.
The best way to move an idea, or a dream into fruition is to say it out loud and visualize it with verbal stories.
More conversations can open up new ideas and even more conversations with others.
The more conversations we can get into, the more great ideas we can discover.
You can't just go thru the steps. You must stop and consider what you discovered and what does all this mean to us.
It's important to know we all are on this journey. It can be rewarding if we keep our eyes and mind open as we progress.
As we discover new ideas we need to use all of the tools available to us to research these ideas.
Stay true to your plan. Work it every day, otherwise you'll find the journey more difficult.
Group your conversations and research around specific industries and/or companies so your conversations are not all over the place.
Dig deeper into the conversations where you can. Often the message is not in what they say, but in how they say it. Listen carefully.
I hope you got value from this conversation and are ready to go forth on your career journey.
I speak about 5 books that have had a significant impact on my career, life, and now my business.
I hope you can get to read each of these.
And as always, message me through this course and ask me any questions. I will help you as best I can.
Podcasts are a great source of ideas you can use in lots of areas of life, including career search
In the 1970s your resume may have included personal information such as your height and weight. In the 1990s newspapers had multiple pages of job openings in them every day.
Do you expect to use the same practices for your job search in 2023 and beyond? I hope not.
Finding the best jobs today is done far differently than in the past. Far differently than just 5 years ago.
Today the benefits of online job boards are diminishing. They are no longer the best place to spend most of your time searching for and applying for jobs.
In this class, we will quickly review some of these old processes, then introduce you to new tactics and processes you will want to use to uncover new job opportunities and position yourself to get into the conversations with the right people regarding those opportunities.
We will show you ideas you can begin practicing to get into these conversations.
The ability to talk with people, ask questions, listen, and learn will help you discover new ideas, new opportunities, and new jobs. This will be one of the most powerful toolsets you’ll need to use in your career journey today and for the unforeseeable future. The best possible job for you is hidden in one of these conversations.
We are told routinely by recruiters, hiring managers, and human resource professionals that we need to pay attention to the job openings they list online and apply for these jobs in order to get hired. Yes, this process may be necessary, however, it’s not the starting point. As you’ll discover in this class, there are many more steps you need to take in order to find your next great job.
