Description
Career Growth Strategies in Information Technology explores career planning from the point of view of a technology professional. We start out distinguishing between getting a job (quick fix) and pursuing a career (long term). We then delve into the attitudes that make for an advancing Information Technology professional. Finally, we describe three key career growth strategies typical in the information technology industry - The SME Strategy, the Veteran Strategy and the C-Suite Strategy.
During the course, we touch on learning hard, branding yourself and building bridges as critical elements of setting yourself up for career success in the technology space. We differentiate between learning and simply acquiring certifications, we dig into what it means to build a personal brand relevant for professional growth and we break down the key elements of a fruitful professional relationship with the RELATE acronym.
This course is interlaced with demos, examples and personal stories. Also included are personal assessment tools that will aid in career and life planning with focus on professionals with a technology background. Recaps and review questions are also included to help participants think deeper about the content of the course. Instructor
Kenneth Igiri is an experienced IT Professional with almost two decades hands-on experience in Networking, Service Management, Application Support and Database Management. Kenneth has worked in a variety of environments ranging from small companies like MobileNet Tech ISP to global giants such as Airtel Nigeria, International Turnkey Systems and Ecobank Group. In mid-2019, Kenneth took up a new challenge in the field of Enterprise Architecture. He currently works with eProcess International – Ecobank Group’s technology hub – as part of a team of equally astute professionals who coordinate the design of services built in Ecobank Group to deliver value to customers in Africa and the rest of the world.
Kenneth is very well versed in Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL Database technologies having spent most of his career working in this area. He is also well trained in related technologies such as Veritas NetBackup, Cloud Computing. At different points in his career, Kenneth Igiri has acquired certifications in Cisco Networking (Routing and Switching), Service Management (IT Infrastructure Library), Databases (Microsoft SQL Server), and Clouding Computing (Amazon Web Services). Before moving to Enterprise Architecture, for one and a half years, he led a team of sixteen Database Administrators who managed Ecobank Group’s Database infrastructure on a day-to-day basis. His expertise is also represented in a decent number of technical and non-technical articles published on popular online blogs - SQL Server Central, MS SQL Tips, Coding Sight and Work Thoughts, a LinkedIn newsletter.
On the academic angle, Kenneth is a graduate of Federal University of Technology Owerri where he obtained a B.Eng. in Electronic & Computer Engineering. He also holds an MBA from UniCAF University and an MSc in Enterprise Architecture Management from Arden University, UK. When not working or studying, Kenneth can be found writing faith-based fiction, spending time with his wife and two adorable kids or actively participating in worship and serving at International Central Gospel Church under Dr. Mensa Otabil. Despite his busy schedule, Kenneth has published four works of fiction and recently one inspirational book. In addition, he continuously engages small business owners through The Strategy Club, a small business community and the Interactive Ideation Session, a one-on-one coaching programme in his efforts to help them reach their goals of business growth and access to opportunities.
