Description

Coronary care units and defibrillators transformed the care of critically sick patients.  The linchpin of this revolution was cardiac rhythm monitoring, which allowed trained staff to observe, analyse, and act swiftly, saving countless lives. This created a high-speed lane of medicine, where a glance at the monitor screen allowed for split-second observation to make life-and-death decisions. Benign situations can be easily differentiated from malignant conditions, and the efficacy and safety of treatment can be ascertained while anticipating and preventing complications, all through cardiac rhythm monitoring.

From a regular sinus rhythm at rates between 60 and 100 bpm, there are seven rhythm disturbances of the heart. Each cardiac arrhythmia has 4-6 causes. Knowing the causes and mechanisms is the first step, which allows one to recognize cardiac arrhythmia; otherwise, monitoring is just wavy lines running from left to right on a monitoring screen.

The practice tests have 250 questions. Answer the questions in a timed manner and explore the concept in the explanation section. These practice tests are designed to increase in difficulty.

Foundation Paper 1. Know the waves, intervals, rates, and the seven cardiac arrhythmias.

Foundation Paper 2. Know the arrhythmia and common causes.

Foundation Paper 3.  Learn the features to diagnose each arrhythmia.

Intermediate Paper 4. Diagnose the arrhythmia using knowledge gained so far.

Intermediate Paper 5.  Differentially diagnose an arrhythmia.
