  • Introduction: What is CapSim?6:42

The CapSim program is a great program for teaching principles needed by business leaders. It may seem like an annoying class to pass to get your degree, but as an experienced business professional working for a Fortune 500 company, I can tell you that the principles you should learn from this simulator are helpful. Having said that, it is important that you get the basic idea behind CapSim so that you can run the simulator with more awareness of how and why things work the way they do. This video "sets the table" in that regard.

  • Research and Development6:36

Without a product, you have no business. You'll want to introduce new products and stay on the customer's good side. This is done by strategically moving your products to affect the age at the right time, adjusting the parameters of your product's size and performance, and how long each product will last in the form of MTBFs. I'll share all the good stuff in this video with you.

  • Marketing6:12

If you fail to market properly in CapSim, no one will know who your company is or have access to the products it makes. Even a company like Coca Cola spends billions each year in advertising so that you *continue* to know who they are. You don't become number one by keeping your proverbial mouth shut!

  • Production7:07

If you mess up on your production page, you will get an emergency loan. This page makes the difference on whether you can make it through the game victorious or not. You need to understand how automation can help you win the game or how it can slow you down. Capacity is also essential so that you can produce the right amount of units without putting your workers into Overtime too much. I also discuss how to account for units left over from the previous round when marking how many units you want to product.

  • Financials6:39

There's a lot to break down on the Finances page. Here you can get a long term loan, a short term loan, you can pay them back, issue stock, buy stock back, and even offer a dividend. Data on the Finances page will help you know if you'll be able to prevent an emergency loan, to some degree, as long as you did your marketing and production pages wisely.

  • Forecasting10:35

Forecasting is one of the most critical components to the simulator. If you do not know how to forecast in CapSim, you will not do very well. I have some tried and true techniques that I've used with hundreds of students to help them forecast how many units they'll sell in each segment. It doesn't pinpoint it to the unit, but it will get you forecasting better than any other way I know. The reason for this is the simulator is dynamic-meaning it is always changing. There is no way of knowing what changes your competition is making at any given moment, though there are some hints and tips that you can see...and they're found in this video.

  • Accounts Payable2:12

Accounts Payable is one of those areas that is often overlooked not only by students but by professors, too. However, it is there for a reason, and a good one. Take advantage of it while everyone else ignores it.

  • Accounts Receivable2:25
  • Handling Emergency Loans3:55

Most people will find this course because they got an emergency loan. They are no fun, but they're definitely avoidable. In this video, I'll give you the tips and tricks on how to get out of an emergency loan and how to avoid it all together.

  • Total Quality Management (TQM)1:47

One of the most helpful ways to get an edge on your competition is to invest in Total Quality Management. It may sound like a silly term, but it is a legitimate expense for most large businesses. With TQM, you'll want to invest just the right amount so that you don't experience diminishing returns. This way, your profits stay on your balance sheet as an asset.

  • Moving a Product from One Segment to Another1:11

One of the critical things you can do in this game to stay above your competition and maximize profit is to move products from one segment to another. At some point in the game, it will make more sense to move a product to a new segment to take advantage of the cheaper costs and the added quantitative demand. In this video, I share what you need to do to accomplish the move.

Requirements

  • This course is specifically for college students taking the CapSim Capstone Course with 5 product segments.

Description

If you're taking CapSim, specifically the Capstone version, this course is the one you *need* to watch. I was required to take a class on CapSim when I was working toward my bachelor's degree in Business Management. I was able to land in the top 1% worldwide. During that time, I shot many YouTube videos to help my fellow classmates understand how the program worked. I spent time analyzing round after round so that they could see why we were making the decisions we were making. After my class, I made the videos public. Since then, my videos have been seen over 1M times.

Since I took the class during the pursuit of my bachelor's degree, I have been helping people semester after semester to finish the class, often helping people reach the top in their class. With years of experience helping people navigate their way to the top of the class in the simulator, I have shared my knowledge and experience in these videos, showing pictures of actual results. In this course, I explain all parts to CapSim so that you're able to go through the simulator confidently. Whether you start this course before you enter your first round's decisions or you've come here after getting an emergency loan in round 4, it doesn't matter. You'll learn what you need to know to get through this. I'll share with you the secrets you need to know to understand the concepts and to pass this class.

Also, there are several versions of CapSim. This course is specific to the CapSim Capstone version, where the student starts off with 5 products across 5 product segments. The information in this course can be adapted to the CapSim Global and CapSim Foundation simulations as well; however, there are notable differences between CapSim Capstone and the other versions.

Who this course is for:

  • College students enrolled in the CapSim Capstone course will benefit greatly from this course
  • Anyone who is taking the CapSim Capstone, especially if they have experienced an emergency loan
