Welcome to this guitar course! We will be learning how to use the capo in a more deep way. Not just for Wonderwall. At the end of the course, you'll be also able to play Wonderwall in a different way in order not to be kicked out from parties and guitar shops.
We have different capos that we could use. There are 4 kinds out there.
Trigger\Spring capos: These are made with a spring at the back that clamps at the back of the neck. These are pretty easy to use and quick to adapt for any live situation.
Screw capos: This kind of capos feature a screw at the back that will allow you to decide how much pressure you want on the neck of the guitar. You can also find both spring and sdjustable tension. Maybe not the best for a live gig.
Cradle capos: Pretty much the same as the screw, with the difference that with this, the pressure is being applied from the center of the capo. Could be more expensive.
It is always important to double check the tuning everytime you're using a capo.
Tuners must be set on C, that stands for chromatic. It will show you the note where the capo is placed, not the open string.
Let's hear the capo at work!
Same open string chords but moved using the capo.
Using the capo to play a song that involves the bar chords. Chords are Fmajor ( ugh! ), C, Dmin and G.
We can add a bit of our personal taste on a arrangement. In this example we followed the same chord progression FMajor, C, D and G. On the G, there's the chance to change the bass note, because it's part of the chord.
But maybe it's something for another course? Let me know in the comments!
Let's start with the CAGED System. A powerful and yet an easy way to learn the fretboard.
Applying the Major Scale to learn the notes on the E A and D string. The three strings that use the CAGED system. But it works on the other strings too.
The Major Scale formula is Tone Tone Semitone Tone Tone Tone Semitone.
Use the diagrams attached just at the end of the lesson. It will help you to understand more the fretboard.

The 1st fret is an F. It's not included in the CAGED system and also, it might be confusing at the moment because the F Major scale doesn't include any sharps but just a flat note.

Remember to practice this with your own time and not to rush this. Learning the notes on the fretboard it's really important. Helps also to write it down once you have done a scale.
What's a reference note? Why we are using it with bar chords.
We will be playing C, G, Amin and F.
Let's start to work it out where we could place the capo. We will be starting from the 3rd fret, since that's where our C major chord has the next shape, the A shape. We will be seeing why we can't play the song here.
Placing the capo on the 5th fret is our next choice, since we got a C major in a G shape. That's the shape that comes after the A in the CAGED system. We will see why we can play the song here.
Thank you very much for checking the course. Let me know if you have any suggestions for any other courses!
Final example using two guitars. One guitar is playing the strummed chords we learned during the course. The second guitar is playing a fingerstyle part using the same chords but with some embellishments, to add a different flavour to the song.
Understand how to use this brilliant object called Capo, in a more deep way.
First steps are about hearing the capo at work with two examples. Using two popular chord progressions, we will hear the difference that the Capo can make by moving the shapes around. We will also use it to arrange songs that are using the bar chords to make it a bit different from the original. Sky is the limit!
We will learn how to move the basic Major\Minor chord shapes using the CAGED system all over the fretboard, understanding how the fretboard works, how to use the shapes to make brilliant parts and to work on our knowledge of the fretboard.
We will learn also the notes on the fretboard in a easy, different and musical way using the Major scale on the E, A and D string, starting each time from the chords of the CAGED system. We will also see another way to practice the scales.
The last chapter will be about how to make everything work together, combining the CAGED system and our new increased knowledge of the fretboard, using the capo.
There also a played example at the end with two guitars.
