The Stress-response cycle will be covered and the impact on the nervous system and body-mind connection. I'll provide you practical tips for grounding and centering during times of stress.
In "Inside job", we'll be exploring self-regulation / emotional regulation and the importance of learning to master this skill in ourselves. The ability to self-regulate appropriately is essential to optimal functioning in life and begins with self-awareness of mind-body-spirit, triggering and understanding what's happening within the nervous system. The lesson will provide you with education and practical, tangible, quick effective strategies to assist you when you feel triggered or dysregulated.
The Vagus nerve, the longest nerve in the body and called "the wanderer" is instrumental in calming the nervous system by increasing vagal tone. In this lecture, I provide you with education and solid, helpful strategies to increase vagal tone and therefore allow your parasympathetic nervous system to take a front seat. You definitely need this is your'e taking a trip to "Vagus!"
SOS! Help is on the way for sensory systems will explain the importance of each of the sensory systems and what types of input are typically alerting or calming. Understanding basic sensory processing and integration will vastly impact the way you view sensory inputs and how it's impacting your body-mind connection. You then get to be a detective and try out various types of input to find out what is helpful or aversive to you and your nervous system. I provided a list of essential oils, which are calming, as well as supplement lists and bath recipes to provide additional support for staying calm in the body!
Did you know the Tactile System is extremely important for self-regulation and connecting into the body. The importance of touch can be alerting or extremely calming, especially deep pressure. Ohh la la, who doesn't want more of that? That's why hugs from our loved ones are especially grounding! Hugging releases of Oxtyocin, which naturally calms us down! We'll be touching on (no pun intended) helpful tactile and proprioceptive inputs to assist with calming the nervous system and increasing more vagal tone!
Movement is a primary means to release stress and move stagnant energy through the body. If you're not a huge fan of exercise, I lead you through various other movement inputs and proprioceptive inputs to help you remain calm and grounded. There is movement options for everyone and you may gravitate toward something new to try out for yourself!
Deep breathing techniques, as well as other breathing techniques are a quick, effective strategy to immediately begin to calm your brain and slow your heart rate. When you make time for intentional deep breathing of 5 to 10 breaths, you will notice an immediate response. Breathing techniques can be alot of fun and I give you a plethora of various techniques to try out. Make every breath you take, count!
Mindfulness and practicing the pause is the final lesson in the course. Becoming acutely aware of thoughts and bringing your mind to the present moment immediately begins to shift your stress and worry. You become active in retraining your thoughts and neural pathways with effective strategies, which have direct implications on positively affecting the nervous system. Don't think so much!
The course "Calm is Your Super Power" is designed is to get you started with providing reliable, effective and tangible strategies you can begin to implement and integrate into your own life. With over 12 years of experience and assisting hundred of clients as a pediatric occupational therapist and now serving the adult population in private practice, I've been afforded the wonderful opportunity to teach and assist clients and students integrate these techniques into their own lives to feel more connected into the body, empowered and to breeze through triggers with less chaos and increased ease.
The strategies and methods I'm teaching are highly beneficial in making positive changes in the central nervous system, which allows you to become more calm, centered, empowered and focused. You can learn to re-train your nervous system to get out of fight-or-flight and the Sympathetic Nervous System storm, often created in the body and become a master at emotional regulation. Letting go of stress, anxiety and negative experiences facilitates higher learning and improves social interactions and a heals your brain. You may even meet a new friend along the way or try a new hobby!
You'll receive a plethora of education, methods of longevity, as well as quick go-to tools you can pull from, when feeling stressed or in a highly charged environment. Upon completing the course, you'll be armed with a wide variety of techniques to bridge mind-body-spirit, to move forward and out of the trauma-drama cycles.
