Calibre is a library management system, perfect for readers. It's also great for authors because of its ability to convert documents to different file types as well as edit them and their metadata.
It's best to format ebooks as well as possible before uploading to Calibre including metadata, although all sorts of editing is possible after uploading.
Metadata includes the ebook title, author, series information, publisher, tags and more. Calibre allows you to edit everything.

Calibre makes it easy to edit within your document and also has a preview area for what your changes will look like.
Epub Validator is a handy tool for checking if your Epub file passes inspection. If it does, you can upload confidently to retailers. if not, you'll be ready for some troubleshooting.
Fortunately Epub Validator gives a detailed list of any errors including their locations in Calibre. Then you can go back to editing mode or even to your original document, make the required changes and try validating again until the file passes inspection. Congratulations!
Besides a detailed user manual, the Calibre website also has a link for an active support forum where you can browse many topics or post a question for specific help on any issue.
It's smart to have two versions of your Epub ebook, one with a cover inserted as the first page and one without. The reason is because some retailers add the cover image separately while others do not.
Calibre makes it simple to create two versions for this purpose.
