This video will give you a dictation exercise based on the CAE Reading paper part 5. At the end of the dictation, you will be able to practise a CAE Use of English Part 1 Exercise based on the dictation passage.
Here is the passage:
"CAE Reading & Use of English Part 5 - Format
CAE Reading part 5 is a multiple choice task.
You have one long passage and then 6 questions with a-d options below.
You have to select the best 1_______ (a,b,c,d) but sometimes you 2_______ think that 2 options are correct! In this case, there will normally be a small 3________ missing or an extra piece of information in one of the options which will help you decide.
The passage might be 4______ a scientific journal, article, a piece of fiction etc.
In part 5, the questions tend to follow the 5_______ of the text.
Some questions ask about specific information and some test your understanding of the meaning of the text.
The questions often 6_______ about the author’s opinions, feelings or intentions.
Technique
1. 7______ the whole passage quickly (30 seconds - 1 minute). This will help you with the more general questions.
2. Read the first question with your hand covering the a-d options. I repeat, DO NOT LOOK AT OPTIONS A-D.
3. Try to find the answer to question 1 in the passage.
4. WRITE DOWN what you think the answer to question 1 is.
5. Now 8______ at the a-d options.
6. If you are stuck between 2 answers, make sure all the details of an option are in the passage. It’s also possible there might be some extra information in one of the options which is mentioned nowhere in the text.
7. Check that the overall meaning is correct.

This is a live dictation video I made recently. I hope you enjoy it.
In part 1 of the Speaking exam, the examiner asks questions about you. These questions may be on topics such as: your likes and dislikes, your family and friends, your English studies, or even what you have 1 __________ doing recently. There 2__________ be a question about the future or some other general questions. This part of the exam is designed to 3__________ you feeling comfortable. I created a four step technique to help you prepare for this part of the exam. The first step is to think of questions related 4 _________ the topics I mentioned earlier. The next step is to prepare some answers to 5 ________ questions. You don’t want to speak for 6 _________ long or the examiners might view you unfavourably. I advise about 30 seconds per answer. You also 7 ________ not rehearse scripts before the exam. Next, I recommend getting someone you know to ask you the questions you have prepared in an exam setting. Finally, I recommend learning 8 ________ others. There are lods of videos of other students practising Speaking part 1 exercises on my website.

This is a dictation exercise based on Part 6 of the reading section. At the end of the dictation, you can do a part 2 exercise based on the passage you have written.
Here is the passage:
"CAE Reading & Use of English Part 6 - Format
Part 6 contains 4 passages (1)______ based on one topic.
There will normally be various opinions of academics.
You will then be (2)________ with 4 questions based (3)______ these different views and opinions.
Before the exam, revise words and phrases (4)_______ show opinions, preferences, agreement and disagreement. These will also be useful for the Speaking paper and you can find some examples of these in my ‘C1 or not C1?’ coursebook.

1. Skim all the passages to locate the common theme/topic.

This is a dictation video based on C1 Advanced Reading Part 7. At the end of this video we will practise a part 3 exercise based on the information you have written down.

Format
Part 7 of the Reading and Use of English paper (1)_________ a text with 6 missing paragraphs.
You (2)________ then given 7 paragraphs and you need to (3) __ where 6 of them go in the passage.
Identifying determiners and pronouns such as ‘his/hers/their/these/that’ will help you complete this part of the paper.
Part 7 can take a long time to complete, so, like with all the other parts of the exam, time yourself during practice exercises before the exam. Remember to use these times and your marks to decide in which order to tackle the different parts in the exam.
Technique
1. As usual, skim the passage so you know the main theme. Some students ask me ‘why should we do this?’ My (4) __ is that spending 30 seconds to do this helps you keep in an important rhythm and mentality for the exam task. I will talk more about pre exam routines later in the book. It also helps you find the correct answers in ways you might not (5)_________.
2. Read the 7 paragraphs (a-g) below the passage. WRITE DOWN a couple of words which (6) the essence of each paragraph.
3. Read the whole passage. Reading the first and final sentence of each paragraph will probably not give you all the information you need to decide the correct answer. When practising before the exam, if you realise you don’t have enough time to read the whole passage, make sure you at least read a few sentences before and after each gap.
4. Write the paragraph letter next to each question number where you think it is (7) .
5. You may write the paragraph letter next to more than one question number. For example, you might write letters ‘B’ and ‘C’ next to question 42 and you might also write ‘B’ next to question 43. If you haven’t (8) ‘B’ or ‘C’ next to any other number, choose ‘B’ for 43 and ‘C’ for 42.
