Before I navigate you along the path to enhance your presentation skills, it is important for you to understand how the brain works, because it is the brain that defines how you react whenever you conduct a presentation.
In my course on the art of communications I provided you a rudimentary walkthrough of the art of presentation. Now the time has come to denude the concept of presentation and break it down into small comprehensible steps.
The verbal introduction is related to the words you use to draw people’s attention. It is the way you introduce yourself, explain the purpose of your presentation and give an overview of the main points.
The body of your presentation is the part you will spend the most time on. It contains the main message you want to convey.
The conclusion should be short and to the point. It reminds the audience of the main points and at the same time puts emphasis on what they should have learnt during the presentation and how they can follow up.
When a question is asked, make sure you restate or rephrase it loudly before you answer. This allows everyone to understand the question and at the same time it gives you the additional few seconds to gather your thoughts.
You have prepared the content of your presentation. Now the time has come for you to go through each step a few times, using your notes.
You have rehearsed your presentation several times in front of the
mirror. You are satisfied that you have mastered all the steps of your
presentation. Now the time has come for you to move on and present in
front of family members.
Auto suggestion is a technique that is used to consciously control the thoughts that you send to your subconscious mind.
Give yourself ample time before the presentation to set up the auditorium.
Maintaining eye contact during a meeting shows that you are a strong, confident, trustworthy, knowledgeable and reliable person. At the same time it allows you to evoke the feeling of respect and affection.
The mere fact that you look at various individuals in a confident way will make them reciprocate.
We are all aware that the majority of people would prefer to die than to speak in public. Their brain had linked presentations and public speeches with intensive pain at some point in their past lives.
I want them to digest the significance of each thought. Otherwise, it would lead to confusion and misunderstanding.
Listening is the act of decoding the verbal message that is being transmitted to the ear. However, for this to happen the listener needs to be inspired and magnetize by the voice that is reaching them.
Most people claim that they do not know what to do with their hands during the presentation. They therefore try to manually inhibit the natural tendency to gesticulate and end up being less expressive and more tense.
In this video, I will show you a few examples of gestures that should be used when you are conducting your presentation. These gestures will allow you to enhance the quality of your presentation and attract the attention of the audience.
Make sure to avoid using these gestures.
People who treat their public speaking as the necessary evil will not be able to find the motivation to entertain the audience.
Some presenters walk up on the stage, stand in front of the lectern, place their notes on the sloping top, lean over and read their speech word by word to the audience. After one hour or so of torment, the audience wake up and go home...
If you fully understand the content of your presentation, you will feel at ease, you will feel confident and you will speak with conviction.
