Welcome to Build Secure Access Management, Authentication, OAuth System course. This is a comprehensive project based course where you will learn how to build role based access control, authentication, and OAuth systems that are fully secure and reliable. This course is a perfect combination between access management and authentication, making it an ideal opportunity to practice your programming skills while improving your technical knowledge in software development. In the introduction session, you will learn the basic fundamentals of access management and RBAC, such as getting to know key concepts like principle of least privilege, segregation of duties, user, roles, and permission, in addition, you will also learn about common risks in access management. Then, after that, we will build a role based database admin dashboard, where we will create four main features, the first feature is user login, which allows users to securely access the dashboard, the second feature is role based dashboard, which provides different features based on user roles, the third feature is database record management, which allows authorized users to view, add, edit, and delete records and the fourth feature is user role management, which enable administrators to manage users and their roles and permissions. In this project, we will have three different roles, viewer, manager, and admin, where each role will have different levels of access to the dashboard and its features. Afterward, we will conduct functional and performance testing on this system, the objective is to make sure the system is fully functioning and access management has been implemented correctly. Once we are done with access management, we will move on to authentication. Firstly, we are going to build basic user authentication using Supabase, Firebase, Clerk, and Auth0, in each project we will create an account, set up API keys and other required configuration. Then, we will use JavaScript, HTML, and CSS to build and design a simple login and sign up page where users will be able to create an account, log in with their credentials, verify their email address, and securely access a personalized welcome page. Then, in the next section, we will learn about OAuth 2.0 and social login, where we will build a login page with an additional option to sign in using a Google account through Supabase. Besides Google, we can also use other platforms like GitHub, Facebook, Apple, and Discord for authentication. Lastly, at the end of the course, we are going to create multi factor authentication using Supabase, which will significantly enhance account security by requiring users to provide an additional verification factor when accessing their accounts.
Before getting into the course, we need to ask this question to ourselves, why should we learn about access management and authentication? Well, here is my answer. Firstly, access management and authentication help protect users and applications from unauthorized access by ensuring that only verified users can access the appropriate resources. They also help organizations control user permissions, protect sensitive information, and reduce common security risks. Additionally, understanding these concepts will enable us to build more secure software systems and mobile applications.
