Welcome, by the end of this course you will be able to build a totally custom online magazine or blog website in Wix. To begin with you will want to make sure you have a Wix account. Register on www.wix.com to get started. Don't worry about upgrading just yet, best to do this at the end when you have your content online and ready for the world to see.
A great website has a uniform aesthetic, this is your opportunity to format the site to work with your branding. If you don't yet have official branding here is where you can create a makeshift logo in Wix. In this section of the course you will select the fonts and colour scheme that will be used throughout the site.
If you don't have a brand and official logo you can create one using the attached resources:

Here you can add the Wix blog to your website. You need the Wix blog to be able to post all articles. You can also upload your blog posts/articles now if you want but there is a chance to do this later. For now the key is to add the blog to the site so we can start building around it.
In this section we begin designing the homepage. The key here is to deliver something super engaging. We want to fit a lot of content on the page and create custom elements that we can connect to our articles or posts. A way to engage your audience is through exciting imagery, try adding parallax scrolling on a full width banner.
Now that you’ve created an engaging header, let’s move on to the second segment of the homepage featuring a custom element using Wix Repeaters. These elements are totally customisable and allow you to create a uniform gallery of posts.
A good online magazine or blog tends to have a variety of elements to display their content. In this section we create a different kind of gallery element still using Wix Repeaters but also with a large image to show featured posts.
Finally, we are going to add a Wix Blog element. This one has limited customisation options as it is pre-built by Wix but works nicely with most sites in areas where you may want a simpler and easier time adding in another gallery to show off your content.
Now we are going to build the Lightbox Menu. This is common on Online magazines and covers a portion of the page with a pop-up menu. You can amend it to be as large or small as you wish and can use Wix Lightbox functionality to build out subscriber boxes and cookie notices also.
Now that you’re homepage is good to go, you can start on some other areas of the site. Namely your category pages! Remember hiding the blog, this is because we want everyone’s attention to be on the category pages where content is funnelled to the appropriate section so people can find the content that is most relevant to them.
Now we get to connect our blog posts and articles to the elements on the homepage and our category pages. Here, we begin with the Header section on the Homepage. Take your time here as the Wix Content Manager takes some getting used to but once mastered makes so many incredible things possible.
Final connections to finish up your site and get it functioning like a real online magazine or state of the art blog.
