One major difference between avid readers and others is the way they select a book.
Non-readers usually end up leaving the book in between because they had selected it only because of someone else's recommendation.
Avid readers definitely consider others recommendation but if they do not like the book, they do not force themselves to read it.
They read as per their need and interest.

This mindset shift is a must to become an avid reader.
We are sure Amrut Deshmukh will agree with us when we say being an avid reader does not mean that you read all books end to end. It's okay to leave a book in between if you do not find it interesting.
Remember, LOYALTY IS WITH PEOPLE AND NOT WITH BOOKS. We do skip boring videos even if the speaker is credible, please do the same with books.
We know our job is to concentrate but it's also authors job to make book interesting. Therefore, don't feel guilty to leave a book in between.
If you can't connect move on. Or you will get stuck with a boring book for months and stop reading altogether.
