Blues Guitar - Beyond The Pentatonic

This lecture shows you how to tailor your blues licks to fit the I IV & V chords in a typical 12 bar blues. You get all of the necessary diagrams to find the notes you need. You also get 30 new licks to learn. By the time you complete this lecture you will have taken a big step towards playing pro-level blues guitar solos.

This lecture explains what the Dorian & Mixolydian modes are, and how they relate to the blues. You'll understand how to take your blues scale/pentatonic licks and expand them into more sophisticated sounding mode based licks.

This lecture demonstrates 20 new licks using the Dorian & Mixolydian modes. By the time you've mastered these licks, you will have a greater degree of sophistication in your blues solos.

This lecture shows you how to use the Mixolydian mode to create cool sounding country/blues double stop licks. You'll get all of the diagrams you need, showing you where these licks lie on the neck, and demonstrations of the concepts being used.

In this lecture I demonstrate some cool licks using 6ths & 3rds taken from the Mixolydian mode. Each of these licks are specific to the I IV or V chord & are demonstrated over the relevant chord. You also get jam tracks to try out each lick over.

This lecture covers the art of using controlled dissonance (the art of using "wrong notes" in a musical manner) by taking your familiar blues licks & adding altered tension notes (#5/b5/#9/b9). There are no complex new scales to learn and it should be pretty easy to relate to licks that are already familiar.

This lecture shows you how to play 10 altered tension jazz/blues licks that will spice up any blues solo. You will understand how & where to use these licks in the context of a 12 bar blues. Hopefully, you will also understand how to adapt any "standard" blues lick to incorporate these jazzy touches.

In this final lecture I demonstrate all of the concepts & techniques we've covered in one example solo. You will see:

• Simple pentatonic licks

• Chord note targeting

• Mixolydian & Dorian mode licks

• Double stop licks using Mixolydian & Dorian 3rds & 6ths
