The second lesson is the Introduction. This lesson discusses introductory and background information concerning bloodborne pathogens, as well as why training on this subject is necessary. This lesson also includes an in-depth look at the importance of the ECP (Exposure Control Plan), and introduces us to PACT, the four steps to a proper reaction to bloodborne pathogens in the workplace.

Following the course introduction, the four stages of PACT are discussed. In this lesson, we will cover the first stage, Protect Yourself. As explained in the lesson, protecting yourself includes many aspects from understanding BBP to preventative actions.

The second stage of PACT, Act Immediately, is the subject of the fourth lesson in this series. The importance of immediate action cannot be overstated. This lesson discusses the proper steps to take following exposure and details how to correctly address an exposure incident.

Lesson number five discusses the third segment of PACT, Clean the Area. It is important to stay updated on your facility’s policy for addressing large areas of blood and that policy supersedes this information. To maintain the situation the area must be cleaned immediately, and those steps are explained here.

The sixth lesson in this Bloodborne Pathogens course covers the final segment of PACT, Tell Your Supervisor. If you are to come into contact with blood or bodily fluids, it is imperative to inform your supervisor, as this is the only way to address possible health consequences from exposure. OSHA regulations and how they are applied in these situations are also discussed.

The seventh and final lesson in the BBP course, What’s Next? As we have now covered how to identify bloodborne pathogens and what steps to take in the event of exposure, this lesson discusses what must be done when on-site training is required by your facility. Because of the threats posed by BBP, it is important to protect yourself by committing this information to memory now, so you may spend your time enjoying your job instead of fearing exposure.
