Welcome to the course! In this section, we take our first steps in Blender. You set it up, open it for the first time, and learn the essential tools you need to start creating. You don’t need any experience to follow along. We start from zero—installing Blender, opening it, and learning the simple tools that help you move around and create your first shapes.
In the first lecture, I'll show you how to download and install Blender 5.0.0.
Learn how the 3D viewport, outliner, and Cartesian coordinates work together to help you navigate and organise your Blender scene.
This lecture covers adding and removing objects and using the basic transform tools: move, scale, and rotate.
This lecture covers the basics of materials and textures so you can give your objects colour and surface detail.
Learn the essentials of rendering and adding an HDRI environment for natural lighting.
Learn the basics of Edit Mode: working with vertices, edges, and faces, using transform tools, and a brief introduction to loop cuts, topology types, and the knife tool.
Learn how to shape the body and tail of a simple cat model using extrude and bevel.
Learn how to create the neck, duplicate parts efficiently, and apply the Mirror modifier.
Add the head to the block model cat and learn how to use the Inset tool to create new geometry.
This lecture focuses on texturing the cat model in the Shading workspace and setting up texture slots.
In this lecture, we'll set up the background for the cat, set the camera view and render out our final image.
Master Blender basics and basic tools in a friendly bootcamp, and continue with four fun beginner projects in Blender 5 for absolute beginners to build on what you learn.
Welcome to this free Blender 5 beginner bootcamp!
If you’ve always wanted to learn Blender but weren’t sure where to start, this is a simple, beginner-friendly introduction designed to help you get comfortable with the basics.
I’ve decided to release the first two sections of my full course, “4 Fun Projects in Blender 5 for Absolute Beginners,” completely free.
These first two sections are perfect if you only want to learn the fundamentals of Blender without jumping into anything too complicated. We’ll start right from the beginning, assuming you have little or no previous experience with Blender.
In the first section, we’ll get Blender installed and take a tour of the interface. You’ll learn how to navigate the 3D viewport and use some of the most important basic tools, including moving, rotating, and scaling objects. We’ll also take a first look at materials and how to give your objects different colors and appearances.
Then, in the second section, we’ll take things a step further with an introduction to Edit Mode. You’ll learn how to work with vertices, edges, and faces, and use those basic modeling tools to create a simple, cute cat.
The goal of this free bootcamp isn’t to overwhelm you with every feature Blender has to offer. Instead, it’s about giving you a solid starting point and helping you feel comfortable enough to start experimenting on your own.
If you’re an absolute beginner looking for a quick and practical introduction to Blender 5, this is a great place to start.
And if you enjoy these lessons and want to continue learning through fun, hands-on projects, you can check out the full “4 Fun Projects in Blender 5 for Absolute Beginners” course, where we’ll build on these fundamentals and create several complete projects together.
Happy blending!
