On average, it's very difficult for women of Dark Complexions to find a Variety of Makeup Foundation that complements the actual Shade of their Skin without trying out many kinds at first.
Amongst more reasons below, this is why I use this Makeup Product for the Demonstration Purposes.
I use this quad because it is easy to mix and match any shade of complexions without having to test different shades in many compacts.
Creme Foundation is widely used as the easiest texture of foundation on a dark skin universally especially for those who are beginners, have a blemished skin on the face and or those who live in extremely hot climates, like me, who live near the equator.
The best choice for foundation on a dark skin depends greatly on the texture and the kind of after-finish that you will receive after you have finished applying your Makeup. An oil-free Creme-to-Powder Foundation works best for Oily Skin, but also easily and effortlessly covers the blemishes in the face, especially the stubborn dark spots or scars.
In this course, we shall be using the Paramour Foundation Quad because it is easy to use because of the four shades of foundation that represents the widest palette of dark skin complexions.
This Foundation Quad is also easy to use and is also waterproof, which is a big advantage when it comes to selecting makeup for a dark skin.
It's also the easiest product for demonstrations purposes because you will not be confused, like in cases if I had to choose different shades of foundation in different types of compacts.
Try to follow my Learning guide as you use the foundation product in your own kit. It's all about understanding the tricks and techniques to keep you effortlessly beautiful and confident in your own skin.
Every Woman owns a Red Lip 'something' in her Makeup Kit.
I choose to use this basic Red Lip product because it's a very versatile matte texture, which helps when it comes to creating the different Lipstick Looks that we'll learn about in Sections 11 and 12. I easily mix it with different lipstick textures and it still gives me the same results of Lip Colour.
You will also learn about how to mix a red lip product like this one with what's in your makeup kit and create different makeup looks for yourself.
If you do not want to wear that red Lipstick, you can use your favourite everyday lip something.
Get your makeup kit ready for our next Lessons!
When starting out on an adventure to learn more about your own beauty and what keeps you feeling beautiful, it can be overwhelming selecting the right shade of eyeshadow. Some shades look too colourful in the palette, which can throw you off.
You can start out with just the basic nude shade, which can be transformed into many styles and Looks as you advance in creating interesting eyeshadow Looks as you learn more about your makeup.
You will also learn and understand how this basic shade of eyeshadow is essential when attempting to create Smokey Eyes and Contouring Eyeshadow in Sections 9 and 10 respectively.
How does your Eyeshadow Palette Look Like?
As a Minimalist, the best resource you have are your hands and fingers!
Using extra tools should be an added advantage to perfecting the Look. You cannot work your powder without the essential makeup brush for evenly blending powder on your face.
The other basic tool that is essential is the eyebrow brush that you can use to highlight around the eyebrows without creating a mess or destroying the eyebrow shape.
Still, you can blend and shade makeup products on your face with just your fingers.
Before you attempt wearing any eye makeup, make sure that you have a naturally well-groomed eyebrow to give you that effortless, beautiful naturally enhanced Look.
Remember that minimalism is all about enhancing your natural features and it's essential to take care of your natural eyebrows.
A great looking eyebrow makes the style of final makeup Look that you will achieve.
Here is how to handle and use and eyebrow tweezer.
This is a generic type of Tweezer for Eyebrows with a slant-angled edge that can be used to pluck even the smallest of hairs on the Eyebrow.
The blunt edges help for a smoother process and makes it easier to grab hairs.
There are many kinds of makeup sponges out there, but you can rely on this cotton powder puff because it can do so much more for you apart from being used to evenly apply face powder.
Here is how I will show you some of the many ways you can use this makeup sponge to assist you with your makeup routine. After this Makeup Course, it will not be your ordinary boring Makeup Sponge!
Look out for Lectures 27 and 30.
Apart from the basic eyeshadow, you will learn to work with different eyeshadow textures.
For the minimalist Look, we'll be learning more tricks to create eyeshadow by using other products in the kit, like an eyeliner pencil.
You can also create intense Looks by mixing shades from a minimalist eyeshadow palette.
In Africa, Uganda specifically, a Razor Blade is the cheapest, easier and most convenient form of grooming your eyebrows, and shaving in general. A typical pack comes with many razor blades and can be found anywhere in the market.
Apart from also being convenient, an already-used razor blades can be used for other functions, like sharpening eyeliner and eyebrow pencils, and cutting anything else necessary to get the job at hand done.
HANDLING AND USAGE TIP:
Curve the razor blade in the middle for easy movement and also to avoid cuts during grooming. The razor blade has very sharp edges. Practice on yourself before using it on another person. As you learn to hold it and move around the Eyebrow, the fear of hurting another person will diminish.
Here are some of the risks of using a Razor Blades
Keep out of reach of children to avoid accidents.
Throw away every razor blade used to avoid the risk of sharing a used razor blades, which may result into sharing infections.
Using a razor blade to remove the ingrown hairs is a very risky and tedious process. You have to watch out not to hurt yourself in case you mishandle the double edged tool.
In case of a Cut - Put alcohol content used to sterilise and clean makeup tools on a Cotton Swab and apply on the wound. Toner also works fine in case of no alcohol or a disinfectant.
Learn about the way to hold a razor blade and how use the simplest method to remove the ingrown hairs around your eyebrow to create a clean, natural shape for your face.
It takes practice to master the art of effortlessly using an eyebrow tweezer. For the start, be prepared to be nervous and shaky.
It will take you some extra courage to firmly hold the tweezer and pull out the ingrown hairs. As you get used to using a tweezer on yourself, you will realise the stinging pain goes away.
Once you master the art of of using a tweezer, you will always opt for it as your best option because it takes twice as much time for your to need to tweeze again. For example, an eyebrow will need a razor grooming again in just one week, yet it'll take about three weeks before you need to groom your eyebrows with a tweezer.
The tweezer pulls out the hairs from deep in the skin, leaving a naturally clean eyebrow for quite a long time.
This is a generic type of tweezer for eyebrows with a slant-angled edge that can be used to pluck even the smallest of hairs on the eyebrow.
The blunt edges help for a smoother process and makes it easier to grab hairs.
In this Lecture, Let us practice the technique of holding the tweezer and how to gently pluck out the unwanted hairs without overwhelming yourself or the customer.
When it is your first time to fill out your eyebrows, the type of eyebrow pencil and how you hold it will determine the shape and size of your eyebrow.
For that easy effortless look, move your hand as if you are shading into the eyebrow. Free the joints of your hand and let yourself relax in your chair when doing your eyebrows.
Do not apply to much pressure on your hand because it will stress out the skin around the eyebrow. Love the process of learning to accentuate your eyebrows.
It is very important to work on your motor skills, posture and hand movement.
Every face has a distinct eyebrow shape. It's important to spend time studying your face and the shape of your eyebrows that suit you in order to flatter the natural shape of your face.
For thin eyebrows, it's the best way to create a shape that won't look way out of the ordinary every time to have your makeup done because you will definitely create a shape true to you and your natural beauty.
Here is the Simple Guide to the eyebrow method
Using a an eyebrow pencil, follow the directions in the video on the actual human face to create a perfect eyebrow for a specific person.
Hold a pencil vertically against the nostril; where the pencil meets the eyebrow is Point A and is the beginning of the eyebrow. Remove the extra hairs in the middle between both eyebrows.
To get the proper arch, place the pencil at nostril and angle it 45 degrees halfway of the pupil to touch the highest point of the eyebrow, which is the arch.
Align the pencil with the outer corner of the eye, placing the pencil starting point at the nostril. Where the Pencil meets the eyebrow at that point is where the eyebrow ends.
The trick is to stay firm with your hand as your shade in the pencil to give you the perfect shape. Adding an eyebrow pencil or another eyebrow product to flatter your natural shape requires the art of shading to give you that effortlessly beautiful transformed shape.
The Eyebrow Pencil
Choose Oil-Free or a Dry Eyebrow Pencil that will keep dry throughout the day. With humidity and constant hot weather, some eyebrow pencils tones melt under the eyebrow hair.
You must be able to complement the Natural Eyebrow without leaving stains in the heat, as some eyebrow tones tend to leave a reddish residue after a long wear.
Black eyebrows tend to look too intense on a lighter skin tone, but on a darker tone it comes off as Natural. In this case, Dark Brown Eyebrow Pencil tends to disappear on a very dark complexion.
Try this easy method to practice with an eyebrow method.
Try to not use too much eyebrow pencil. That is why it's essential for you to understand how to hold and use the eyebrow pencil in the first place.
You still want the eyebrows to appear natural-looking, yet strong. We learned how to hold and use an eyebrow pencil in Lectures 12 and 14.
If you have very light eyebrows like mine, you can play around with your eyebrow pencil by intensifying the shade when filling in your eyebrows.
There is a very thin line between making the eyebrows strong and gothic.
Naturally, I love to wear light natural-looking eyebrows so that when I take off my pencil, I don't look too different as compared to when my eyebrows and makeup is fully done.
Thin eyebrows are beautiful when they are well taken care of. If you want your eyebrow to look beautiful and flawless, use a makeup highlighter around the eyebrows to clean up and have well-pounced eyebrows.
This is also another way of utilising your foundation or makeup concealer in your makeup kit. If you have a foundation that is 4 shades like mine or something similar, then choose the lightest shade to highlight around the eyebrows.
If you have a one-shade foundation or are using a dry foundation like a powder, invest in a light concealer that is at least a shade lighter than your natural complexion, and make sure that you will be able to utilise the concealer for other purposes like concealing blemishes around the face and covering dark circles under the eyes.
The most important Makeup Tool for this process, especially if you are a beginner at this, is the angled eyebrow highlighting brush, which is able to firmly go around the eyebrow.
You are blessed with fingers! Blend around the eyebrow with your fingers and blend the makeup products as desired.
Once your eyebrows are perfectly done, the rest of the makeup process becomes so easy to execute and work around!
When you are highlighting strong eyebrows, remember that they are naturally full and you just have to apply as little product as possible.
Focus on blending the highlighter around the eyebrow so that you look naturally enhanced and effortlessly beautiful.
In the Lecture, I compare naturally strong eyebrows to those that are strong because I applied a strong eyebrow pencil like mine. When highlighting my eyebrows, I'm extra careful not to remove the eyebrow shape from the pencil, which is temporary. Therefore, I focus more on the blending process and I rely on the highlighting brush to be steady.
On the other hand, a highlighter is being applied to the model who already has naturally strong eyebrows. You can see that little highlighter is applied, but it still brings out the natural shape effortlessly.
When working with naturally thick eyebrows, you must focus on maintaining the natural shape, yet little work is needed to make them seem fuller and thicker. Focus on cleaning around the eyebrow for neatness with a concealer or highlighter.
Take your time when blending out the product around the eyebrow because you do not want to mess up the shape. Just diligently follow the natural shape as you shade in the spaces with a a dark brown pencil.
Look out for too much eyebrow if too much eyebrow pencil is applied! Focus on enhancing the shape and filling out the open spaces in the eyebrow.
For minimalist Looks, less is always more, even for the naturally thick eyebrows.
Same Application Technique as Lecture 16 and 17. With the help of the eyebrow highlighting brush, apply highlighter around the eyebrows to bring out a very clean well done eyebrow.
Give the blending process of the highlighter more time around the eyebrow to give you naturally enhanced looking brows.
To prevent dramatic looking eyes, choose a highlighter that is the same shade as your natural skin tone to look soft and beautiful.
Body bronzer is another way to transform your eyebrows effortlessly, in case you do not have a concealer or foundation to bring more light to your eyebrows. Also, attract more light to your eyes using a face bronzer.
Bronzer is used to emphasise highlighting around the face to enhance bone structure and give the skin an overall glow.
Apply bronzer under the eyebrows to give the face a lift. Apply on the temples, forehead, and neck area to attract light to the centre of the face.
To open up the eyes, apply a touch of bronzer in the inner corner of the eyes, especially if you have applied false eyelashes.
Pressed Powder - Matte or “Anti-Shine” Powder
There are various kinds of powders - Those that have a shine in them like bronzing powder, and those that are Matte that give a dry finish.
Matte powder absorbs the excess oil on the face, leaving it smooth and dry. Best for touch up and oily skins.
Matte powder on a dry skin leaves it dry and grey. Apply a creamy foundation first, or moisturiser for dry skin.
Use matte powder in the oily areas of the face: the nose, chin, and forehead, which is called the “T-Area”
A nose with matte powder looks less prominent on the face than a shiny nose. Therefore, touch up with a lightweight powder with a matte finish like a translucent HD powder.
Use a powder puff or brush to press on the powder. This helps to set the foundation and give a matte finish.
Too much powder applied? Fluff off with a larger brush like a powder brush or a fan brush.
The Loose Powder
Loose powders are lightweight, with light pigments that can easily pour or be blown off by the wind. It's important to store well with the cover properly sealed on the container.
For a natural-looking skin, try a loose powder that matches your skin tone. Apply it generously, focusing around the nose area; this is where most of the facial oils accumulate.
Some powders tend to have a more reddish finish after they set. Use such powder when contouring the face. The reddish finish gives a depth or a shadow on the skin that complements your natural skin well.
For setting makeup, a loose powder does a great job complementing a creme-to-powder foundation application.
The Bronzing or Shiny Finish Powder
Shiny finish powders are best for good skin and well-balanced facial features.
Shiny finish powders can be used as body and face bronzer.
Use shiny powder with the same hue as the foundation, but with a heavier pigment, to give a full, flawless cover for a Picture Perfect Look.
Lastly, apply a shiny power to complement the Look. You can only apply it mostly on areas that attract light on the face: the Forehead, Cheek Bone area and the Neck.
For a subtle highlight, apply a shiny powder above and under the eyebrows, and in the corners of the eyes.
Shiny powders are best for Bridal and Celebrity Looks.
The HD - High Definition Powder
HD powder is a versatile translucent powder that masks fine lines and imperfections by creating a smooth, flawless cover. It can be tinted or just a white, smooth finish powder.
Touch Ups - The HD powder easily blends out for fast application and soaks up the oils and sweat easily.
Tip - Don't apply HD powder on a moist skin. It creates a powdery residue once it dries up.
Apply with a powder brush for best results as it sweeps across the face evenly. HD powder tends to settle in fine lines (wrinkles) if not blended out very well.
An ordinary loose powder has a heavier pigment than HD powder. In comparison, ordinary loose powder covers blemishes more evenly.
The Face Powder Brush
Before you attempt at applying face powder all over your face, you must understand the basic tools needed to go about the process of application. A powder brush is essential to help sweep powder around the face and blend the makeup product.
The Brush is used for both Loose and Pressed Powder. Sweep the brush over the Pressed Powder. Blow off the excess pigment to avoid creating a mess, and apply all over the face in circular motions to brush as you blend.
This brush is supposed to be round at the base of the bristles for an easy flawless application. Opt for an organic brush to apply the powder; it's soft and can easily sweep off excess product as it blends the product onto the skin.
To apply Loose Powder with a brush, Pour some Loose Powder on a flat surface to avoid making a mess, and to spread it evenly on the brush for a smooth application. Blow off the excess powder on the brush and apply on the face.
A brush with organic bristles is best tool for applying loose powder because it can evenly sweep the powder on the skin giving a light weight natural cover.
Sometimes you may not have time to wear your makeup in the right order because you don't have a lot of time. Sometimes you may not be in the mood at all. Here's a simple guide on how to just rock a powder on your face minimalist style. Wear the powder like this for Day Looks, or for just a quick cover.
For effectiveness, use the powder brush to sweep any desired amount of powder product on your face, and blend as desired. Apply more in areas that need extra coverage, like under the eyes and over dark spots.
I always go two rounds of powder application in case I want to skip the whole foundation application routine.
For a lightweight cover, go with a loose powder and opt for a pressed one for that extra noticeable cover because of the thick pigment.
Set your powder with a water spray bottle or use a wet makeup sponge as demonstrated in Lecture 8.
For that basic minimalist soft look, wear a loose powder as a foundation. Here, you don't need to worry about looking for a creme foundation or liquid foundation cover.
Instead, apply it flawlessly over your face to give you that beautiful cover. Of course, the case is different if you have a more blemished skin. You may need to conceal around your face for extra smoothness using a concealer or a foundation.
This is great for you ladies with a smooth skin because you won't need so much product on your face for your skin to look enhanced.
For oily skin, this is an amazing type of dry foundation because it has the ability to absorb the excess oils on your face, especially around the nose area.
A loose powder is also great for touching up your makeup in the day because of the light pigment that won't cake or clog the pores.
For that extra matte finish, apply a second layer of powder to look extra smooth.
For that extra flawless finish, you can combine loose powder with a foundation of your choice. In this video, I first applied the foundation and then applied a loose powder to set it, but also give it a perfect smooth skin.
If your foundation does not perfectly match your skin tone, don't worry. If it is lighter than the face, or darker, opt for a loose powder that is exactly your skin shade to complement and correct the foundation to look natural.
For its light pigment, a loose powder is the best makeup powder to touch up with in the day because it will not cake. Also, some pressed powders tend to change the true shade if it is continuously applied for touch up.
When I pair a foundation and a loose powder, my skin always looks so flawless and I achieve that uniform complexion without much effort.
Look out for those loose powders that tend to cake in case it's paired with a foundation that is oil-based and applied on an oily skin.
In Lecture 25, we learned how to apply a loose powder over foundation for a smooth finish. In this lesson, we are going to learn to apply a loose powder on the face before you apply your foundation.
This is because it protects your skin from any foundation coming it and also for oily skin, the loose powder can help absorb the oils on the face before you apply your foundation.
It acts as a face primer to complement the foundation makeup to give an effortless final sleek smooth skin. This is a great way of utilising all your face powder in your makeup kit.
When applying the powder as a primer, match your face with the neck to help you match out your natural complexion, especially if you are unsure of the shade of your foundation.
After you have finished applying loose powder on the face, you can dip the powder sponge in water and squeeze until the sponge is only moist. Then apply the sponge gently around your face to set your powder and also give you a glow throughout the day.
Your powder will not run, even in the heat. For us who live around the equator, it's a very helpful trick to keep the powder from caking or running in the heat.
Also, there is no extra need to add more makeup throughout the day. It gives you that extra confidence because your makeup stays fresh and intact!
Water is also added moisture to the natural skin, even over your makeup and it gives that extra glow to your face throughout the day.
Also, relax your skin with that wet sponge. Sometimes I dip the sponge in ice water to cool my face down.
Please refer to Lecture 21 to review the different types of face powder - A pressed face powder is an anti-shine product applied on the face like a loose powder, but it has a thicker pigment and gives a more heavy cover on the face.
A Pressed Compact Powder is much more efficient when it comes to giving you that extra coverage on your face unlike the loose powder. The difference is because of the thick pigments that the pressed powder has; it gives it the ability to stay light on the face and also work with your natural skin texture and complexion.
Dry Foundation is a Dry Powder finish with a heavier pigment than the normal powder used as a base for makeup on the face. It's an option for a quick makeup fix for an effortless Day Look.
Dry foundation works well with smooth flawless skins because you need less to cover up the blemishes. To quickly enhance your skin, use a powder that is exactly your natural skin tone and, with a brush, apply all over the face and around the neck.
For a Picture Perfect Look, base the skin with a liquid or creme foundation and set with dry foundation. This Look works well for Bridals and Photoshoots.
Dry Foundation Powder isn't great for constant touch ups in the day as it tends to cake or create layers, especially in the heat. Instead, touch up with some Loose Powder on a Powder Puff. Apply it evenly and give yourself extra time when applying so that you have enough time to blend the product all over your face.
Make sure that the face matches with the neck so that you can have that uniform complexion.
Apply a second layer to have an extra flawless cover and you can get away without wearing makeup foundation.
Priming the face means giving the skin an extra protective cover before you apply foundation. A pressed powder can help you to map out your complexion if you aren't sure about your shade of foundation.
Applying a layer can even out the face, with the neck to guide you on looking natural and effortless.
Once you adopt this technique, you can easily be able to match your foundation in low light areas, or if you are in a rush with a busy schedule. I always cheat away with this simple trick and it works every time I'm in a rush.
If you are a Makeup Artist, you will save more on foundation makeup because priming the face like this helps to map out the customers' complexions without going wrong with mismatching foundation.
For those with sensitive skin, this gives you a very protective cover for your skin in case you're not sure of what type of foundation you are using.
For a really dark complexion, priming the face like this because the skin looks richer, and the more foundation is added to it, the better it looks.
Feel extra enhanced and super confident in your skin!
To give you that extra glow on your face and to set your powder, use a Wet Powder Sponge like in Lecture 27 that describes how to set your loose powder with water.
An added advantage to using this easy trick is that you will save money on buying setting sprays, and it works with all skin types!
Water adds moisture to the skin and relaxes your face after a rigorous makeup application routine. Even before you start to apply your makeup, use this wet sponge around your face just to calm your face down.
Keep your makeup from running during the heat after you set your makeup and you will feel confident hugging others and wearing white colours without worrying about messing up your clothes.
After you set your foundation, you're able to add layers of makeup and your natural skin will still glow from underneath heavy makeup without caking.
A pressed powder or a loose powder are the most basic types when it come to face powder choice, and also the easiest for you because of the wide range of Skin Shades.
It's easy to select the right true shade of your complexion of face powder when it comes to these two distinctly textures of of face powder.
For storage purposes, a pressed compact powder can easily fit in your hand bag makeup kit or your touch up bag because it can't pour out, unlike a loose powder.
All in all, your choice of either product will depend on your tastes and preferences, accessibility to various quality makeup products, and your budget for your makeup kit.
Watch how I prime and prepare my face with a pressed powder before I start to apply my foundation in the next Lecture 32.
In Africa, Dark Skin blemishes are mostly caused by exposure to the sun. Many of us work long hours under direct sun. Rarely do we wear sunscreen, which is basically a luxury product here accessible only to those who can afford it and who are aware of the damage the sun can do to skin.
Also, we often don't to drink enough water throughout the day, and we rarely take the quality time to invest in our beauty care routines because of our busy life schedules.
You will find that the blemishes on our faces can easily be prevented just by doing simple things to take more care of our natural skins, like creating simple face washing routines, drinking water throughout the day and taking advantage of the wide variety of fruits and vegetables that flourish in our climate.
Most of all, avoiding direct sun at peak hours in the day can be advantageous to the tightness of the skin on the face as the skin reserves the moisture and oils, leaving it healthy and beautiful.
Direct sun also ages the skin and contributes to the widening of the facial pores, which will in turn lead to clogged pores around the face from dust. Clogged pores can bring acne, which can leave black spots and scars. It also can bring a rough texture to the face.
I hope that the attached downloadable resource - 5 Pages - is useful to help you create your own Face Washing Beauty Routine at home. Here, I guide you on how to create your own natural products right from your kitchen or from the nearest local market.
The reason why you would opt for a creme foundation instead of a simple cover with a powder is because a foundation gets to correct the skin colour and also cover up all the stubborn blemishes that a powder would not.
Here are simple examples of skin blemishes on a dark skin face that would need to be concealed and covered. The next Lectures 34 and 35 explain more of there facial blemishes that we can universally identify with.
Another kind of blemish on a Black Woman's face is black spots. These are usually a result of acne and pimples. Scars can be left behind from pinching the swellings of the pimples. As these small bruises heal, black scars can result. Here is how you can conceal them if you happen to have them around your face.
When it comes to black spots, prevention is better than a cure. Take good measures to stay disciplined at your beauty care routines, and hydrate all the time throughout the day. You must make time to take care of yourself and your general wellbeing.
If you are the type that bursts and pricks your pimples around your face because of stress, or just out of habit, I advise you to keep your manicured nails very short. This reduces the effects of the bruises, but you must remember to consciously not prick your pimples.
The black spots are often caused by the friction and the pressure that you exert on your face when attempting to burst the pimples.
Foundation looks so flawless on a healthy skin, and your skin will naturally glow under any makeup style. You will look so beautiful and effortless when you take the time to care for yourself!
Under Eye Dark Circles:
For most of my customers, Under Eye Dark Circles are genetic. For others, they're caused by a health condition. For a few customers it's their distinctive hollow bone structure around the eyes that brings a shadow around their eyes.
Dark Tones around the Face:
For those who work under the sun for all hours in the day, the areas that the sun hits the most are usually darker than those that are hidden away from the sun. You will find that this brings dark shades around the face; the inner face areas are lighter than the outer face areas.
Darker Face or Lighter Face than the rest of the body:
The most common skin tone variation occurs when the face is either light than the rest of the body or vice versa. Those who spend more time under the sun usually have darker faces than than the rest of the body.
In natural cases, change in variations of skin tones around the face is an after-effect from pregnancy.
Now you can understand why I choose to use the Foundation Quad because of the 4 shades of foundation to help me mix and match my foundation around the face to create that effortless smooth skin.
Perfect your art of applying your own foundation in Lecture 37.
Before applying any foundation product on your face, make sure you prepare your skin with a primer. The easiest way I do it is by applying a face powder of my choice. In this lecture, I am using the Pressed Face Foundation to prepare my face. I have these Face Priming Techniques laid out in Lectures 26 and 29. If you need any assistance with understanding the basics of priming your face,Please review those two Lectures.
Advantages to doing this is that you easily match out your face and your neck. You also cover your skin with a protective cover from unsafe foundation products, and the powder also absorbs the oils off your face for those with oily skins.
You will learn in Lecture 38 how to set your face with water after a finished foundation routine, and you will see that once you set your makeup with a wet powder sponge, your makeup will automatically glow. Once you have primed your face with a powder, the final makeup Look appears so effortlessly beautiful, and your skin will naturally glow from underneath all the makeup.
Also, this helps you with utilising every makeup product in your bag, especially when you need extra help to make your makeup look extra funky and enhanced.
As you see in the video, my skin automatically looks richer even before apply the creme foundation on my face for extra enhancement.
I am a champion at using my hands to apply foundation and any makeup products on my face! Using my hands gives my skin that natural sensuous touch, and it leaves my skin feeling smooth and gentle compared to when I use a rough makeup brush.
Learning to use less tools on your face as a minimalist is essential because you will have enough space to store and carry both your makeup tools and products. You will also spend less time and money on shopping decisions for makeup tools.
In this lecture, I explain how to use a foundation application brush to apply the product in the sensitive and hard to reach areas like under the eyes.
Also, for professional use on customers, make sure to sanitise your hands every time, and you can combine with using your hands and a makeup brush as desired.
Whichever option is easiest and works for you, learn to spend more time going around your face to apply foundation. The more practice you give yourself using your hands and makeup brush, the more your finished skin with foundation will glow and attract more light to your face.

To have that extra natural Glow, set your Foundation with water, as in Lecture 27.
Highlighting is basically a process of attracting more light to the face, especially to the centre, which is along the nose bridge, around the eyebrows, along the chin and under the eyes.
Makeup highlighter is makeup that attracts light to the face and creates the illusion of brightness to accentuate the bone structure of the face by emphasizing the areas where light falls.
For a dark complexion, the process becomes more tedious when it comes to balancing more light around the face. In this lecture, I show you how to use minimal makeup products to get the desired effect.
This is also another way to utilise your makeup foundation without having to empty your pockets for exotic highlighting products. Learning to work with your own foundation improves your foundation application techniques overall.
Learn to have multiple purposes for each and every Makeup Product that you own. Choose a foundation product that is one shade slightly lighter than your natural complexion for the highlighting techniques.
After the highlighting process, your face transforms without adding any more makeup products.
For me, I use the powder when I need soft highlight around my face. Since I already have my foundation properly applied, a powder seals the highlighted Look in case I don't have the extra time needed to use a foundation highlighter, which requires a lot of blending time.
Apply the highlighting powder around your T - area in the centre of the Face.
To have a multi-function powder, I just put a powder with a shade one level lighter than my actual shade. I also make sure that I can use this powder for other things, like priming my face or setting the powder.
In this way, you have created a versatile product that will benefit your makeup process for more than one purpose of highlighting.
For effective application, I use a Fan Brush to sweep bronzer around my face for that extra glow. You can use as much bronzer depending on your desired taste.
The Fan Brush
For applying small amounts of powder blush, bronzer, contouring powder and highlighter along the cheekbones.
Use the fan brush to sprinkle makeup and other products like glitter on the face and the rest of the body. Use this brush for bronzing the neck, back and the chest area. I go along my cheeks, along the nose bridge and on the jawline.
Techniques for Highlighting your Face
To achieve that Over Done Look, which is different from the Day Look, I use a combination of the foundation highlighter, a powder and a bronzer to seal the whole Look. It's also a technique I use when I'm applying makeup for Bridal and Music Video Looks.
With highlighting, the job is done perfectly when combined with contouring, which is the opposite of bringing more light to the face and instead working towards casting a shadow to different parts of the face to tone your bone structure.
This technique is easy to work. Highlighting is essential here to make a big nose appear slim and sharp. Simply just a apply a highlighter along the nose bridge to attract more light.
Remember to apply less for the best application. Too much highlighter on the nose can defeat the purpose of a sharp nose because it may seem flat.
For effective application, I use my forefinger to apply the highlighter, or a Fan Brush.
To perfectly create a sharp nose, apply a contour product in the sides of the nose like in Lecture 44.
