Description

This course offers an introduction to Biblical Hebrew through the study of 100+ of the most frequent words found in the Old Testament (the Hebrew Bible, Tanakh) — each of which appears more than 500 times in the biblical text. Learning this core vocabulary is a practical and effective first step toward reading and understanding the Bible in its original language.

The course covers the most common nouns, verbs, adjectives, pronouns, prepositions, and conjunctions. Each newly introduced word is explained by means of illustrative examples taken directly from the Hebrew Bible, in order to demonstrate how it functions in authentic contexts. Each section concludes with a short practice test designed to help you review what you have learned and assess your understanding before moving forward.

In addition to vocabulary, the course provides a brief overview of the Hebrew alphabet and basic grammatical concepts, enabling even complete beginners to follow along with confidence. All words and examples are given in Latin transcription alongside Hebrew script.

This course is ideal for students of linguistics, history, theology, and biblical studies, as well as for anyone who is interested in Scripture and ancient languages.

No prior knowledge of Hebrew is required — just curiosity to explore the language of the Old Testament.

Who this course is for:

  • This course is for anyone interested in ancient history and ancient languages in general, and Biblical Hebrew in particular.
