Are you a language enthusiast? Are you looking to learn Swahili? This Swahili for Beginner course will prepare you to acquire knowledge on a basic introduction to the Swahili language and culture. This course provides a solid foundation for recognizing the basic grammar of the Swahili language and vocabulary related to everyday life. It is an opportunity to explore the usage of the Swahili language for everyday conversation at the basic level, with no knowledge of the Swahili language needed.
In order to enforce the basic skills of listening, speaking, and reading, this course is divided into five sections. The first section of this course will focus on greetings in the Swahili language, both formal and informal greetings. The second section will focus on self-introduction, together with how to introduce other people. Sections three and four of this course will cover Swahili question words, numbers, and the way to tell time in the Swahili language. Finally, the last section will cover how to order food and drinks at a restaurant in Swahili, focusing on the needed vocabulary and sentence structures. All of these seek to develop understanding, interpersonal, and communication competence in the language. Enroll now for a great experience!

Afua Hyiah Kwarteng is a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Swahili at Ohio University. She is a language enthusiast and believes that learning a second language is important for personal development and knowledge of different cultural values. Afua holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Swahili from the University of Ghana, an Exchange Students Program Certificate in Swahili from the University of Dar es Salaam and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Applied Linguistics at Ohio University. She received the best female Swahili student award in her second and third years during her undergraduate study at the University of Ghana. Afua can speak three international languages: English, Swahili, and Chinese, and two Ghanaian languages. In her free time, she likes to watch movies, visit new places, and chat with friends on social media.
