The Zigzag
One of the criteria to neutralise dark lips is to implant as much ink as possible into the skin in a session without causing extensive trauma. Therefore, this technique is ideal for working on dark lips because it does not require as much pressure as whip or pendulum technique. When you combine this technique with perfect stretch.
Saturation
Needle does not leave the skin from start to end point.
Saturate one area before moving on to the next section.
Complete 8-10 strokes on the same line
By working in a consistent, repetitive rhythm, and taking the time to saturate before we move to the next section, This will shorten procedure time. Less passes also means less swelling. As we work, the lips is already trying to heal itself which is why we see less swelling in clients when we work diligently before moving to next section. This way we are not reintroducing more trauma on lips which can cause pain and swelling in clients.
Hand Speed : Slow
Machine Speed : Dependings on your hand speed. Look for dots instead of comma's on your pixelation. If you see comma's on the practice pad, it is either you are moving too fast while your machine speed is too slow or vice versa
*Pro Tip : Find music that has beats according to your hand speed to help you work more consistently.
Consistency is Key
When working with lips, you need to be working as consistent as a machine. This can help you to achieve an even implantation, even on your first pass.

Stretch
Practise makes perfect!
Make sure you practise as often as you can so you develop the muscle memory to work on any dark lip.
*Note that this is a guide to how your stroke direction should be, and not the amount of saturation.
The Fundamentals of Stretch
With an even/flat or tight surface, your needle is in contact with the skin consistently which results in a nice, uniform application of pigment. Without proper stretch, your needle is bouncing off the skin and causing irritation, which will then cause your clients' lips to swell without implanting pigment effectively. This can cause trauma due to an uneven application and will heal to be patchy results.
From the video, you can see that when the glove (lip skin) is not correctly stretched, pigment is implanted unevenly, even though your hand movements are consistent.
When the glove is stretched and tight, every dot of pigment is implanted evenly, exactly like how you would see it when you are practising on a practice pad.
The Basic Stretch
There are many ways to stretch lips, every lip is different. You can use a combination of stretch techniques on a single lip depending on the lip condition & shape to get that smooth surface for the best implantation.
Key Points for good Basic Stretch :
Use one finger to move the skin, and anchor down with another finger to gently hold the surface
Re-stretch if you cannot find the perfect smooth surface
Interchange between your thumb, forefinger and middle finger to adjust to the angles of the lips
For the arm you are using to stretch, keep your elbow down and your wrist flexible at all times
Do not overstretch and causing the skin and blood capillaries to break
* Note that gloves was not used in this tutorial to showcase which part of the finger is used to stretch
The Finger Stretch

Using lint-free cotton to line the inside of your clients mouth helps to remove excess saliva
