You will know how comics started and how Batman developed as a character.

  • No pre-existing knowledge or tools are required, just a desire to learn about the greatest superhero ever-Batman.

I'm Julian iliev and I'm an independent filmmaker and film historian. I’m also a huge Batman fan and follower. I have an extensive Batman HotToys collection and like many of you Batman is all over my cell phone.

I'm inviting you to join my course Batman - from A to Z. In this class we will cover the birth of the comic book as a medium, the start of DC comics and Superman. We will talk about the collaboration between Bob Kane, Bill Finger and Jerry Robinson; the influence of “The Shadow” and how World War II and how the “red scare” changed comic books.

We will examine the actual aspects of the creation of Batman and its progress through comic books. We will talk about the migration to TV and the campy Batman TV show. Further, we will learn how Frank Miller changed Batman’s image and the transition from comic books and TV shows to the big screen. The contribution of Christopher Nolan and his Batman trilogy will be covered as well. We will learn about Batman’s allies, his playground - Gotham city, the gadgets he relies on and superhero teams. Of course, we will talk about his enemies as well and especially the creation of the Joker and Harley Quinn.

Last but not least, we will look at many questions that fans have about his actions, methods and the oath to his parents. After the completion of this class you will have a better idea why Batman is considered to be the best superhero.

If you are a Batman fan or a Superhero enthusiast this class is for you.

I’m looking forward to seeing you in my class.
