Cross pollination can be a real problem when you are trying to save seeds, especially with squash, melons, corn and cabbage family crops.
This lesson teaches you how to best avoid cross pollination issues.
Vegetable plants that are pretty easy to save seeds from are the ones that are least affected by cross pollination. The include:
Tomatoes
Peppers
Egg Plant
Tomatillo
Legumes
Lettuce
Spinach
Chinese Greens
Some crops are a little harder to save seeds from. This is because they are either bi-annual or are affected more by cross pollination. These crops include:
Beets
Swiss Chard
Carrots
Turnips
Onion
Broccoli
Cabbage
Kale
Cauliflower
Collards
Brussels Sprouts
Kohlrabi
Learn how to save Kale seeds
There are a few garden vegetables that are very hard to save seeds from. This is mainly because they are so prone to cross pollination. These crops include:
Corn
Cucumbers
Summer Squash
Winter Squash
Pumpkins
In this short lesson I take you out in the garden to show you the difference between male and female blossoms.
Once you have harvested you seeds it is important to be sure they are dried well.

Most seeds will last between 3 to 5 years if stored properly. Knowing this will help you make plants for what seeds you should be saving each year.
