Detail knowledge about color, color wheel, color theory, color combination, color correction, neutralizing, undertone, skin tone.
A color circle, based on the primary colors of red, yellow, and blue, is traditional in all forms of art, including makeup artistry. The primary colors of the color circle cannot be mixed or formed by any combination of any other colors; conversely, all other colors are derived from these three colors, or hues (a color in its purest form).
Primary colors – also called main colors, they are red, yellow blue.
If we mix 3 prime color we will get brown color
Red + Yellow + Blue = Brown
Secondary colors – the colors you get when you mix primary colors
Red + Yellow = Orange
Yellow + Blue = Green
Blue + Red = Purple (some say violet; I say purple)
Tertiary colors – primary colors mixed with secondary colors
Red + Orange = Red-Orange
Yellow + Orange = Yellow-Orange
Yellow + Green = Yellow-Green
Blue + Green = Blue-Green
Blue + Purple = Blue-Purple
Red + Purple = Red-Purple
Tint – white added to a color
Tone – grey added to a color
Shade – black added to a color
Hue Saturation – intensifies a color; add more color to increase its concentration
Hue – the color itself
Saturation – how intense a color is
Value – how light or dark a color is; also called lightness
Warm Colors – reds, oranges, yellows
Warm colors remind you of fire
The color wheel is divided into warm colors vs. cool colors
Cool colors – greens, blues and violets
Cool colors remind you of water.
Red and green can be either warm and cool. So can grey.
Color Schemes
Monochromatic – Several colors of the same hue but with added tints (adding white) and shades (adding black)
Analogous – Colors are next to each other on the color wheel
Complementary – Colors that are directly opposite each other on the color wheel.
These colors make each other pop.
Examples are red and green (Christmas), purple and yellow (Easter), blue and orange
Complements – two colors that are the same value (darkness or lightness) but opposite hues (opposite colors on the color wheel).
Color Temperature - Warm vs. Cool
The colors on the color wheel are divided into warm and cool. White, grey and black are considered to be neutral colors.
A color being classed as warm or cool is important in how we see that color. Warm colors register more quickly with us – that is, we notice them first and they stand out more. Cool colors meet the eye more slowly and are said to be receding.
This is why certain colors are used as warnings. For example, red is used to bring our attention to something – a dark blue would not have the same effect. It is the same with makeup – warm colors meet our eye first and stand out.

What is corrective makeup?
Corrective makeup is a technique that makes use of light and dark shades and colors to highlight and contour our features, creating the illusion of better balance and proportion. For instance, you can use corrective techniques to make a narrow top lip appear to be fuller, and to work with unequal eyebrows to give them a more symmetrical appearance.
The term corrective makeup is sometimes confused with the term camouflage makeup, which is applied to conceal scars, hyper pigmented (darker) areas and other features that a person wishes to hide.
When working with corrective makeup, keep a few basic tips in mind:
· Highlighting emphasizes a feature
· Shadowing minimizes a feature, making it less noticeable
· Blend, blend, blend your makeup to create a seamless transformation between corrected areas
· Corrective Makeup Supplies
Depending on the areas you plan to work with, you may need wider selections of makeup and supplies. A few include:
· Lip lining pencils in dark, medium, light
· A variety of foundation colors and shades
· Concealers in light and darker shades
· Light to dark eye shadows and eyeliner pencils, including browns and grays
· Translucent powder
· Makeup sponges; contour and highlight brushes and applicators
· Tweezers
Professionals use disposable mascara wands and other throw-away applicators when working with makeup. You might not choose to use them with your personal supplies, but they do help keep your makeup collection more sanitary.
