"Just finished Dan's course. He has a wealth of knowledge with Excel VBA and applies simple yet thought provoking ways to apply barcode scanning and tracking methods. This course was designed to benefit Excel beginners to advanced users. Also Dan's approach to solving problems during his lectures displays his confidence of this subject matter. Take this course if you are interested in extending your knowledge of Excel VBA. ExcelVBA IS Fun!" - Kevin Nee

"Hi Dan, After watching all of the videos I can defiantly see us using this for our company. We currently depend on pencil and paper and the honor system for tracking labor hours for jobs. Each employee is responsible for tracking the hours they spend on a given job. We could print a barcode for each job and apply the label to a board or something like that. Then when an employee starts on that job they would scan that label then select their name. Then the program would stamp the start time, when they are done they scan the bar code again select their name and the program would stamp the stop time. I will defiantly continue studying this course and look into coming up with something of this nature for our company. Thanks for the course." -Scott

Some barcode fonts are FREE, but very few of the free fonts will actually do you any good without depending on an online source. We want to be able to generate our own barcodes in Excel, so I'm going to let you in on a secret font that works everytime and is legible by almost ALL barcode scanners. This is a free-to-the-public font and it's included in the course downloads. You can also get paid fonts on the web if you have more specific needs.

The website listed in this video is http://grandzebu.net/informatique/codbar-en/code128.htm

Still working on our userform, we add a bit of spice to automate data entry using barcode scanner.

Automating Data Entry

Let's test our first Userform with the scanner! In this lesson, Dan takes some file folders with Barcodes and scans them in using the Barcodes on the filing racks to categorize them into inventory.

Practical Application Exercise
+ Alternate Methods
4 lectures 50:26

Sometimes you'll have barcodes with the same number of characters - Sometimes NOT! In this lesson, we review an alternate method of recognition for the program. We use a special Character that tells the program when to begin looking up the item in question. Check it out!

Dealing With Non-Uniform Scan Lengths

Each time we scan, we'll need to look to see if this is a duplicate AND to find out where this item is located or to whom it is assigned.

Looking Up Inventoried Items as You Scan

We've scanned the items into the database. Now what?! In this lesson, we're leaping forward in time to when it's time to Ship the items off (aka take them out of inventory) and mark them as shipped or "Finished Project", depending on what industry. Check it out!

Marking Items as Shipped or "Finished"

Tired of guessing how many items we just scanned? How many are left? We're going to add some informative labels and a macro that triggers them to update for each scan. Follow along!

Adding Labels to Userform to Track Inventory Easily

Nothing's worse than setting up hundreds (or more) of barcodes, just to find that your labels aren't sticky enough due to environmental factors or adhesives, OR that your scanners won't reach that far or your labels aren't big enough. Maybe it's smudgy?! Follow these tips to get a great scan everytime!

Getting A Proper Scan (and Troubleshooting Bad Scans)

In this lesson, Dan gives tips on what questions to ask a vendor when finding the right scanner for you. What symbols do I need it to read? How far can I get before it won't read anymore, pricing and ruggedization talks as well. Check it out!

Scanner Units - Symbologies, Scan Range, Price and Durability

Nothing's worse than a bad scan. Check out Dan's final tips on getting that scan PERFECT! A stitch in time. . .
