"Hi Dan, After watching all of the videos I can defiantly see us using this for our company. We currently depend on pencil and paper and the honor system for tracking labor hours for jobs. Each employee is responsible for tracking the hours they spend on a given job. We could print a barcode for each job and apply the label to a board or something like that. Then when an employee starts on that job they would scan that label then select their name. Then the program would stamp the start time, when they are done they scan the bar code again select their name and the program would stamp the stop time. I will defiantly continue studying this course and look into coming up with something of this nature for our company. Thanks for the course." -Scott

As a programmer, we're all about making life easier for the user. In this lesson, we'll discover why barcodes are significant in several different industries and how we can use them to automate data entry and eliminate errors.
Some barcode fonts are FREE, but very few of the free fonts will actually do you any good without depending on an online source. We want to be able to generate our own barcodes in Excel, so I'm going to let you in on a secret font that works everytime and is legible by almost ALL barcode scanners. This is a free-to-the-public font and it's included in the course downloads. You can also get paid fonts on the web if you have more specific needs.

In this lesson, Dan will show you how to use his Excel workbook (included FREE in this course) in order to Generate and Print various Avery label sheets sized labels. You can also customize the sheets and create your own to suit your own needs. We'll show you how the code works and how to generate your own report-label sheets in future lessons.
Learn how a scanner works and how easy it is to get a good scan when you know the ins and outs. In this lesson, Dan shows you what it looks like to scan to a computer using a USB wired barcode scanner. We'll begin by scanning to Microsoft Word.
In this lesson, we'll show you how to use the Colored buttons that generate each report and how the code works behind it. Simply select your group of cells, click one of the buttons and voila! Your printer is now printing your barcode labels!! Check it out!
Now we get to some exciting ground - Creating our first scanning program. Follow along as Dan leads you into creating a barcode-intensive program for scanning items into an inventory system!
Sometimes you'll have barcodes with the same number of characters - Sometimes NOT! In this lesson, we review an alternate method of recognition for the program. We use a special Character that tells the program when to begin looking up the item in question. Check it out!
We've scanned the items into the database. Now what?! In this lesson, we're leaping forward in time to when it's time to Ship the items off (aka take them out of inventory) and mark them as shipped or "Finished Project", depending on what industry. Check it out!
Nothing's worse than setting up hundreds (or more) of barcodes, just to find that your labels aren't sticky enough due to environmental factors or adhesives, OR that your scanners won't reach that far or your labels aren't big enough. Maybe it's smudgy?! Follow these tips to get a great scan everytime!
In this lesson, Dan gives tips on what questions to ask a vendor when finding the right scanner for you. What symbols do I need it to read? How far can I get before it won't read anymore, pricing and ruggedization talks as well. Check it out!
