Welcome to the Baking Yeast Bread for Beginners course. My name is Dom and I will be teaching you step by step how to get started baking bread. All of this broken down into easy to follow lectures. At the end of this course you will have baked two beautiful loaves of bread.
Udemy will ask early on in the course whether or not you would like to leave a review. I would greatly appreciate it if you did leave a positive review. Any feedback is greatly appreciated and helps me better improve my courses.
In this lesson I want to go over your shopping list for this course on Baking White Yeast Bread for Beginners. You will find this shopping list in the resources section. If you are shopping locally print this document off and you can use it as a list while you are shopping.
I will walk you through step by step how to proof your yeast. This video will be used for both bread recipes made in this course. Make sure to double check your recipe for the specific amounts of water, yeast and sugar to be adding.
The yeast has been proofed and you are now ready to add the remaining ingredients. The less flour you add your bread will be lighter and more airy. Having a sticky dough is a good thing.
The process of kneading helps give strength and elasticity to our dough. In the beginning our dough is quite lumpy. Kneading the dough will develop the gluten structure of the dough giving it strength.
In this lesson we are going to do the first shaping of our dough. If your first attempt at shaping isn’t as successful don’t worry you will get another try at it before your bread is baked in the oven.
Now it’s time for the first rise, place your dough in a warm area of your home. You are going to leave your dough like this for roughly 1 hr to give it time to rise. It should double in size.
You should have two bread pans whether they are metal or glass doesn’t matter. This method of preparing your bread pans has been the best method I have found for creating a nice non-stick surface.
The dough has now doubled in size! The second shaping is similar to the first shaping. You want to shape the dough in a log shape this time to fit inside your bread pans.
The second rise is going to take roughly 45 mins to 1 hr. You are going to cover both bread pans with a damp kitchen towel in a warm area of your home.
We have finally made it! We get to bake our loaves! In this lesson I will show you a trick for checking your bread for doneness.
The loaves have been left to cool for a couple hours. Now we will slice our bread and store them to prevent the loaves from drying out.
