
LUMBAR FACET SYNDROME: Signs and symptoms include: low back pain at rest that is relived with motion. Aggravated by lumbar extension and rotation, prolonged sitting, and repetitive movements. Diffuse morning stiffness and sacroiliac pain.
LUMBAR STRAIN/SPRAIN: Signs and symptoms of lumbar strain or sprain include immediate transitory pain followed by pain-free intervals, which leads to stiffness, spasm, and diminished mobility. Pain ranges from sharp and intense to a dull ache and gnawing. Pain is localized to the lumbosacral region. Frequently, the patient has difficulty rising from a bed or a seated position because of the pain from muscle spasm. The gait is slow and guarded, and posture antalgic.
SCIATICA NEURALGIA: Sciatica Neuralgia signs and symptoms include increased pain and paresthesia along dermatomal patterns of sciatic nerve roots. Antalgic gait is also noted.
HERNIATED CERVICAL DISK: Herniated cervical disk is characterized by the low-neck pain, which may radiate to the extremities or chest. The pain occurs over trapezius, tip of shoulder, anterior upper arm, hand, and thumb. Exacerbations and remissions are common, with increased pain and duration with each subsequent attack. The pain increases with forward flexion of the neck. This condition is also characterized by severe night pain. Pain may be relived with upright posture and walking. Head may be held in antalgic posture with neutral flexion and deviation away from the side where pain is present. Cervical range of motion is decreased with pain present upon movements in both passive and active range of motion.
TORTICOLLIS: Torticollis syndrome is characterized by the head tilted to one side or rotated to the other side in a very antalgic position.
CERVICAL RADICULOPATHY: Cervical radiculopathy signs and symptoms include sites of pain in lateral neck, sub occipital regions, shoulders, and midback region; Decreased ranges of motion in all planes; Possible muscle wasting and weakness of upper limbs. Pain increases with hyperextension or deviation of the head to involved side. The pain is intensified by active or passive range of motion.
