Autonomous Database for APEX Developers

In this lecture, we will extend an existing APEX application with geospatial functionality. Imagine a fictional use case where citizens that wish to fly a drone have to formally request this. The APEX application will be used by an institution to process these requests and decide whether the drone-flight is allowed. A drone flight will be allowed when its location is not within an urban area.

In this lecture, we will add machine learning to an existing APEX application. The actual machine learning logic takes place in the database and the APEX application will pick up the predictions. As an example, we will apply machine learning on a sales scenario, in this case we will predict which customers are most likely to buy a certain product.

The product is called "Y Box Games". Our fictional company has been moderately successful in selling this product so far. Although some of our customers already own this product, we believe we could do much better. The problem is that it's very difficult to understand what type of customer is interested in it. That's why we're calling in the help of machine learning!

We will use Apache Zeppelin, which comes pre-installed with the autonomous database. This will be our front-end for the Machine Learning algorithms in the database. For more background on machine learning in the database see Oracle Advanced Analytics documentation.

The autonomous philosophy takes our security to the next dimension. Keeping up to date in terms of security patches is very difficult. But in the scope of the ATP and its self-securing approach, the latest security patches will be applied transparently to our databases and that the best industry standards will be respected.

Transparent Data Encryption and Data Redaction are two very powerful features to protect our application data and both are native to the ATP due to the presence of the Advanced Security option of the Oracle database.
