Course content

1 section5 lectures1h 22m total length
  • Usual Approaches, Challenges. Overview of approach that works.11:35

In this first lecture (10 minutes) we look at the usual approaches that people take to achieve the goal of massive enterprise network deployments, and the challenges with those approaches.  We then take a first look at our proven approach that works.

  • The Approach that Works: Autodiscovery, Location, Config and Test9:27

In this second lecture (11 minutes) we look at our proven approach in Detail.  By the end of this lecture you will fully understand the auto discovery, location, configuration and test processes.  We will then explain why this process works so well in the real work.

  • Resources/Roles and Tools you will need3:13

In this third lecture (3 minutes) we detail the Resources/Roles and Tools you will require to implement the process.

  • Router Configurations Walk Through6:40

In this fourth lecture (9 minutes) we look at the router configuration you will require to make the process work and interact correctly with the automation code. This is for cisco routers. The configurations are available to download as resources from the Udemy course page.

  • Code Walk Through51:13

In this final lecture (52 minutes) we step through the code (bash, python and expect) line-by-line that will perform the automated discovery, location, configuration and test processes. By the end of this lecture you will fully understand how the code works and what it is doing, such that you can either use it with confidence unchanged, or adapt it to your needs. The configurations are available to download as resources from the Udemy course page.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of IT networking
  • No previous coding knowledge needed - we walk through the code

Description

Do you have plans to deploy a massive enterprise network containing 1,000s or 10,000s of WAN routers. Do you need to do this quickly and without hassle. Watch our 1 hour 20 minute training course and use our proven source code (bash, python, expect) to make it happen.

Unfortunately the established "out of the box" automation options like "zero touch provisioning" techniques that some vendors offer, or new DevOps techniques like Ansible, Chef, Salt or Puppet may be fine in well documented and fully equipped Data Centres, but don’t work in reality on the massive scales that large geographically distributed businesses require. For Enterprise deployments what is required is scripting (highly customised software programs written in Bash Shell Script, Python and Expect), together with corresponding human processes that keep everything simple and possible on a massive scale, and can cope with the real world practical and logistical problems and challenges that occur when the goal is the deployment of 100s of sites per day. With our proven process, site deployments typically take 10 minutes per site with unlimited concurrency.

There are good approaches and bad approaches. Take a route that is proven to work, and that requires miniminal on-site skills during installation, and allows ultra-simple logisitics.

We provide line-by-line code and config walkthroughs so you will fully understand how the code works and what it is doing, such that you can either use it unchanged with confidence, or adapt it to your needs.  Lectures 4 and 5 provide all the source code files and configuration files as downloadable resources on the Udemy course page.
