Overview of what will be learned in the class and what is needed for the class
How to open Autodesk Inventor and start making a new part.
We will extrude a box and learn go through basic keyboard commands and adjusting views
How to cut a hole into a piece using the extrusion tool.
This tool is used all the time. It allows you to carve and cutup your models.
Set the dimensions of some part of a design and use planes to add features
Planes can only be placed with respect to flat faces. In this lecture we will learn how to add planes so we can create sketches on curved parts.
Use revolve to create circular parts and a fillet to smooth sharp edges
Create an assembly with a rotating joint.
An assembly is a collection of parts which are fitted together to create a machine. Many assemblies move so in this video we go through how to add joints so you can see how parts move and interact.
Use a pattern to create a repeating feature in a part and update an assembly. This helps to prevent a lot of work recreating the same feature.
Measure some features in order to match them and use the mirror tool to save time by creating symetry
Constrain parts in an assembly and make some invisible to see others
Constraints ensure that parts in an assembly are fitted together. Unlike joints, constraints are fixed and do not move in the assembly
How to use planes to create an angled hole in an assembly
Use sweep to create complex geometries that must follow a curve
If you are creating an inrregularly curved piece then sweep is the best option.
Assign materials that have the same mechanical properties as the real things
Materials help to add to the appearance of your model as well as well as simulate how it will behave when built
Render the design in order to create pictures for presentations and communications
Test the components to see how they react when exposed to loads
If you ever want to have someone build your model you will have to create drawings with dimensions for them. This is very simple in Inventor.
Where and how to download complete files for use in your projects
How to export CAD formats for sharing and 3D printing
In this course we will cover the most common tools used in Autodesk Inventor. At the end of this course students will have the skills needed to create almost anything and the foundation needed to continue to expand their skills.
This course is fast-paced. Each video may cover several topics and each builds on the other. Files are available to catch up but students are highly encouraged to work the examples live with the video.
We will begin with the basic parts to become familiar with the interface and then will build a full machine that can move and be tested as would be done in the real world.
